Assistant Resident Engineer

Dundalk, Louth, Ireland

Overview

We are seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer for a National Road scheme situated approximately 10km west of Dundalk, Co. Louth, from Summer 2026 for approximately 14 months.

The ideal candidate will have relevant experience in civil engineering design and/or construction. The candidate should be self-motivated, enthusiastic, hardworking, flexible, willing to take responsibility and comfortable working with others in a team.

Your role

The role will involve site-based supervision, contract administration, stakeholder and client liaison, reporting, monitoring and inspection of construction activities; in tandem with a Senior Resident Engineer, a Resident Engineer and a Clerk of Works/Inspector.

About you

  • Level 7 or Level 8 qualification in Civil Engineering.
  • Computer literate and with experience of relevant software (AutoCAD or similar) and Microsoft Office programmes.
  • Experience in supervising and inspecting the construction of roadworks including pavement, drainage, structures, ducting, signage, lighting, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Experience in record keeping and reporting on Contractor's progress.
  • Ability to work within a team and also work independently and under own initiative to achieve project goals.
  • Knowledge of current H&S regulations and best practices.
  • Working week of 8hrs per day, 5 days per week; with possibility of some weekend and night works (only if and when required).
  • A vehicle will be provided during the course of the works, so applicants must hold a full driving licence.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexible approach with ability to be able to multi-task and prioritise when necessary.
  • Positive outlook and approachable manner.
  • Well-motivated, able to work alone or as part of a team when required.
