Overview

The Digital Engineering function within the Global Technology Centre (GTC) supports the digital transformation of infrastructure delivery across the highways, rail, utilities, water, energy, and aviation sectors.

The team combines information management, digital delivery, computational design, automation, data analytics, and emerging technologies to improve how infrastructure assets are planned, designed, constructed, and operated throughout their lifecycle.

As a Digital Engineer II, you will provide specialist Digital Engineering support across a range of infrastructure projects and programmes. You will be expected to independently deliver complex Digital Engineering activities, contribute to technical innovation, and support the development of Digital Engineering capability across project teams.

Working alongside engineering, design, project management, and technology specialists, you will play an important role in improving project outcomes through the effective application of digital processes, automation, information management, and data-driven decision-making.

Your role

  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of project information management processes and workflows.
  • Contribute to the development of Information Delivery Plans (IDPs), project information requirements, and digital delivery strategies.
  • Undertake information quality reviews, audits, and compliance assessments.
  • Support project teams in the application of ISO 19650 aligned information management practices.
  • Contribute to digital handover and asset information deliverables.
  • Assist in developing project-specific information management solutions to support complex delivery requirements.
  • Digital Delivery
  • Lead Digital Engineering activities on defined project work packages.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary model-based delivery activities across infrastructure projects.
  • Undertake model federation, coordination reviews, clash detection, issue management, and design integration activities.
  • Support project mobilisation, digital delivery planning, and implementation of Digital Engineering workflows.
  • Promote the adoption of best-practice digital delivery processes across project teams.
  • Support the resolution of complex digital delivery challenges.
  • Computational Design & Automation
  • Develop and maintain computational design workflows that improve project efficiency and consistency.
  • Create and deploy visual programming solutions using tools such as Dynamo, Grasshopper, Generative Components, FME, and related technologies.
  • Lead automation initiatives aimed at reducing repetitive manual processes.
  • Develop reusable templates, workflows, and automation tools that can be deployed across multiple projects.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to translate engineering challenges into practical digital solutions.
  • Support the evaluation and implementation of AI-enabled workflows where appropriate.
  • Data & Analytics
  • Develop and maintain project dashboards, reporting tools, and performance visualisations.
  • Analyse engineering, BIM, GIS, and project information datasets to support project decision-making.
  • Support integration of information from multiple project systems and digital platforms.
  • Contribute to the development of data-driven workflows that improve project visibility and performance.
  • Assist project teams in identifying trends, risks, and opportunities using project data.
  • Support the management and quality assurance of project information and reporting datasets.
  • Emerging Technologies
  • Contribute to the evaluation and implementation of emerging technologies relevant to infrastructure delivery.
  • Support Digital Twin, GIS, reality capture, LiDAR, drone technology, and AI-related initiatives.
  • Participate in proof-of-concept studies, innovation programmes, and technology trials.
  • Assist project teams in adopting new technologies and digital workflows.
  • Contribute to lessons learned, innovation case studies, and capability development activities.
  • Professional Development & Collaboration
  • Provide technical guidance and support to Graduate Engineers and Digital Engineers.
  • Contribute to capability development through mentoring, knowledge sharing, and coaching activities.
  • Support the development of Digital Engineering standards, templates, workflows, and best-practice guidance.
  • Build effective working relationships with project stakeholders across multiple disciplines.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and innovation programmes.
  • Demonstrate technical leadership within project teams and Digital Engineering communities of practice.

About you

  • Typically, 5–8 years of experience within the infrastructure, engineering, construction, or built environment sectors.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering Digital Engineering, BIM, information management, or digital delivery services on infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of BIM processes, information management principles, and digital delivery workflows.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 19650 aligned project delivery practices.
  • Experience developing computational design solutions, automation workflows, or digital tools.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary project teams and complex delivery environments.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working on highways, rail, utilities, water, energy, or aviation projects.
  • Experience developing reusable automation tools and computational design workflows.
  • Exposure to GIS integration, Digital Twins, reality capture, or asset information management initiatives.
  • Experience supporting innovation programmes and digital transformation activities.
  • Familiarity with digital handover and asset lifecycle information requirements.
  • Experience mentoring junior Digital Engineering professionals.
  • Autodesk Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks, or Bentley OpenRoads / OpenBuildings
  • Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), BIM 360, or Bentley ProjectWise
  • Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Power BI
  • Dynamo, Grasshopper, Generative Components, FME, or equivalent computational design platforms
  • Experience with one or more of the following:
  • GIS platforms such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or InfraWorks
  • Model coordination and design review platforms such as Revizto, iTwin, or similar technologies
  • Construction sequencing, digital twin, or reality capture platforms such as Synchro and related solutions
  • Automation and workflow tools such as Power Automate, Power Apps, Python, or equivalent technologies
  • Data integration and information management platforms used within infrastructure projects
  • Postgraduate qualification in Construction Management, Civil Engineering specialisations or related fields.
