Project Manager - Thermal Power

Montréal, Quebec, Canada | Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Overview

The Project Manager leads the delivery management of assigned Conventional Island / Balance of Plant scope within the Program. The role is accountable for planning, coordination, performance management, and interface leadership across engineering disciplines, suppliers, and stakeholders. Success is measured by predictable delivery against scope, safety, quality, schedule, cost, and contractual commitments in a regulated nuclear environment. Interfaces with CI/STG PM for all steam cycle and OEM package integration. Owns OEM-driven Conventional Island packages including turbine-generator and steam cycle systems. Acts as single point of accountability for supplier performance and deliverables.

Key Interfaces

Internal: BOP engineering leads (civil/structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, I&C, HVAC, fire protection, plant utilities), project controls, procurement/supply chain, quality, HSE, document control, contract/commercial, finance.
External (as applicable): client/partner stakeholders, OEMs and suppliers, subcontractors, site organizations, regulators/oversight bodies via established channels.

Your role

  • Define and maintain the BOP execution structure: scope boundaries, deliverable list, WBS, key assumptions/exclusions, and interface map.
  • Lead day-to-day delivery of assigned BOP work packages across the project lifecycle (definition, engineering, reviews, readiness for downstream phases).
  • Establish and chair effective delivery cadence (progress reviews, look-ahead planning, interface coordination) and ensure actions are owned and closed.
  • Drive timely resolution of scope ambiguities, constraints, and conflicts through structured issue management and escalation when required.
  • Serve as the delivery focal point for assigned OEMs and suppliers, ensuring alignment on requirements, schedule, documentation, and quality expectations.
  • Coordinate bid/evaluation and award support activities (within role scope) in collaboration with procurement, engineering, and commercial/legal teams.
  • Monitor supplier performance, identify early warning indicators, and implement mitigation/recovery actions to protect milestones and quality outcomes.
  • Ensure supplier documentation and data packages are complete, traceable, and delivered to agreed timelines to support engineering and readiness needs.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering inputs to ensure consistency, completeness, and interface alignment across BOP systems.
  • Ensure deliverables meet agreed maturity gates (e.g., review completeness, data quality, constructability inputs where applicable).
  • Facilitate resolution of technical interface matters by convening the right stakeholders; ensure decisions and assumptions are documented and controlled.
  • Develop and maintain integrated schedule inputs for assigned BOP scope; ensure logic, dependencies, and milestones are credible and traceable.
  • Monitor progress against baseline, analyze variances, and implement recovery actions to protect critical milestones.
  • Define and report KPIs (deliverable maturity, progress, forecasting accuracy, critical path threats, interface closure rates) in an executive-ready format.
  • Manage the BOP scope budget and forecast within delegated authority; maintain a defensible basis of estimate and estimate-to-complete.
  • Coordinate staffing/resource plans (internal and external) to align capacity with delivery priorities and constraints.
  • Support progress measurement, accrual inputs, and invoice readiness with clear traceability to scope and deliverables.
  • Identify, document, and manage BOP risks and opportunities; ensure mitigations are actionable, owned, and time-bound.
  • Lead disciplined change control for assigned scope: develop impact assessments (scope/cost/schedule/quality/safety), support approval pathways, and maintain auditable records.
  • Maintain an active issues log with prioritization, due dates, and escalation triggers aligned to program governance.
  • Procurement/Supplier & Third-Party Management (as applicable):
  • Coordinate with procurement/supply chain on RFx development, vendor engagement, bid evaluations, and award recommendations for BOP-related packages (within role scope).
  • Manage delivery interfaces with suppliers and third-party contributors to ensure schedule, quality, and documentation obligations are met.
  • Track long-lead deliverables and supplier risks; implement mitigation and escalation as needed.
  • Demonstrate leadership in health & safety and nuclear safety culture; ensure safety and quality expectations are embedded in planning and execution.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable QA programs, procedures, security requirements, and document control standards.
  • Promote a strong quality mindset: right-first-time deliverables, rigorous reviews, and complete records suitable for audit and regulatory scrutiny.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders; communicate clearly, promptly, and professionally.
  • Prepare and deliver concise executive updates highlighting performance, risks, decisions required, and recommended actions.
  • Support customer/stakeholder meetings by ensuring preparation, alignment, and accurate capture of commitments and follow-ups.
  • BOP execution plan inputs (scope definition, WBS, interface map, milestone plan).
  • Integrated schedule inputs and look-ahead plans; variance analyses and recovery plans. Cost forecast / ETC updates and progress measurement support with clear basis.
  • Risk/opportunity register inputs, issues log, and change impact assessments.
  • Supplier interface trackers (as applicable) and deliverable maturity dashboards.
  • Executive-ready status reports and decision briefs.
