AtkinsRéalis's Minerals and Metals team in Canada is made up of more than 400 employees who work on large-scale projects to support mining sustainability, pit-to-port opportunities, metallurgical plant engineering, or mine closure and capabilities in the study, design, and construction of mining projects across a wide range of mining and processing methods and commodities. The team combines global-caliber expertise to provide tailored solutions for projects of any size, scope, or complexity. We are currently seeking an Electrical Design and Drafting Technician to join our Global Minerals & Metals (M&M) team and to support our growth to align with the demand to supply responsibly sourced critical minerals. The Electrical Design and Drafting Technician will support all Electrical activities during a mineral process plant design in all phases of a project execution.

This opportunity will be to support the M&M business located in any of the major cities of Canada: Toronto or Montreal.

Your role

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Prepare electrical single-line diagrams, AC control schematics, wiring distribution drawings, and panel schedules based on engineer mark-ups and design inputs.
  • Develop cable block diagrams and prepare cable, conduit, and raceway schedules in accordance with project standards.
  • Produce cable and raceway routing layouts to support electrical design deliverables.
  • Draft electrical heat tracing layouts and related documentation under engineering direction.
  • Perform electrical drafting and 3D modeling using AutoCAD, AutoCAD 3D, SmartPlant 3D, SPEL, and/or Revit.
  • Prepare AutoCAD 2D electrical drawings, including grounding, cable tray routing, and lighting layouts.
  • Coordinate electrical cable tray models with other disciplines to support clash identification and resolution.

About you

  • Diploma or associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related electrical discipline from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical drafting and design support, preferably within consulting engineering or construction environments.
  • Working knowledge of North American electrical codes and standards (e.g., IEEE, ANSI).
  • Proficiency in at least one electrical drafting or 3D modeling software such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD 3D, MicroStation, or SmartPlant 3D; experience with additional platforms is considered an asset.
  • Exposure to electrical design work for heavy industrial and/or mining projects is an asset but not required.

Expected compensation for this role is (between Pay Range $77,900 - $107,100 annually) (Only Applicable to Ontario). Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
