Environmental Technologist

Overview

We are seeking an Environmental Technologist to join our growing team. The Environmental Permitting and Management team has an ever-growing portfolio of work, built on technical excellence and exceptional service to our clients, with a particular need for support on our power and renewables projects. Day-to-day work will include field surveys, habitat assessment and / or construction environmental monitoring, including identifying environmental risks, preparing of monitoring reports and data reporting against accepted standards

Location: Can be based out of our Vancouver office within the Lower Mainland, or our Victoria and Nanaimo offices on Vancouver Island. Other office locations across BC will be considered.

Your role

  • Plan, coordinate and conduct biological surveys and sampling in accordance with applicable protocols/methods
  • Field-based environmental monitoring for project compliance during construction phase relevant to environmental management requirements
  • Act as a key resource for diverse set of environmental assessment and permitting projects
  • Act as the main point of contact between field activity and Project Manager and mentor junior field staff
  • Conduct environmental desktop research, prepare environmental monitoring and mitigation plans and reports
  • Assist in the preparation of regulatory approval and permitting applications
  • Establish and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies and construction contractors
  • Provides field-level guidance on practical environmental protection to prevent or minimize project impacts on environmental receptors and achieve compliance.
  • Maintains an independent role from other project parties to assess compliance and report non‑compliance events
  • Assisting the team as required when field work is not available, such as writing reports and proposals.

About you

  • Post-secondary education (Relevant University degree, diploma or graduation from a technical program).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience planning, conducting and/or managing biological studies (e.g., wildlife, vegetation, wetlands, fish and fish habitat studies).
  • Experience on construction sites in an environmental capacity.
  • Formal training or certification such as EMCPP, CISEC, CESCL, CPESC, EMCPP considered an asset.
  • Full or provisional membership in a professional body e.g., College of Applied Biology of BC, Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of BC, Canadian Environmental Professional.
  • Qualified Environmental Professional as per the Riparian Areas Protection Regulation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of BC terrestrial and/or aquatic habitats.
  • Working knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation and regulatory process.
  • Working knowledge of the current survey protocols in BC.
  • Proficiency in data collection, data management and statistical analysis, and the ability to write data reports..
  • Detail-oriented, meticulous with field notes and methodologies.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement practical mitigation and management plans.
  • Valid BC driver's license, a good driving record, and access to a personal vehicle.
