Our 1,200 highly skilled employees design and deliver state-of-the-art CANDU® reactors, carry out life extension projects, provide plant life management programs and tools, and offer operation and maintenance services for existing nuclear power stations.
Candu Energy is currently looking for experienced piping analysis engineers to join our engineering team. The work is in support of Life Extension Projects for the on-going and anticipated retube of CANDU6 reactors and requires technical expertise in the analysis of feeder piping, feeder supports, and feeder in-line components. This role is based out of the Candu Energy Inc. home office in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. This is a permanent full-time position.
Your role
- Demonstrate understanding technical documents such as engineering drawings and bill of materials, calculations, design specifications, design/analysis reports, design requirements, design manuals, technical specifications (for procurement, fabrication, and site installation), data sheets, system classification lists, code classifications, commissioning specifications, etc.
- Prepare technical documents such as design/analysis reports, design requirements, design descriptions, design decision documents, design specifications, fabrication technical specifications, installation/removal specifications, etc.
- Perform thermal, fatigue, seismic, linear, and non-linear analyses in accordance with ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, Section III, Div.1 code requirements.
- Support the project team by helping them with the design and analysis of complex piping and support arrangements using finite element analysis software (i.e. ANSYS Mechanical and/or LS-DYNA).
- Communicate with the clients and suppliers to provide technical assistance and resolution of any technical queries that may arise.
- Prepare requisitions or Engineering Quotation Requests (EQR) for equipment and materials to support procurement.
- Provide technical guidance and instruction to Designers/Drafters and more junior staff as required.

About you
- Must have an Engineering Degree in Mechanical from an accredited university or equivalent degree as recognized by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
- Must be a Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the Province of Ontario or be eligible to be registered as a P.Eng. in the Province of Ontario in near future.
- Must have 5 - 8 years of related work experience in mechanical engineering within a heavy industrial environment such as nuclear, mining, oil & gas, power, etc. (Nuclear industry experience is preferred).
- Must have experience in stress analysis of piping, pipe supports and other pressure boundary components, for dead weight, thermal, fatigue and seismic conditions.
- Design engineering experience in nuclear Class 1/2/3 piping systems for Nuclear Power Plants is preferred.
- Must have experience in stress analysis using ANSYS Mechanical (APDL or Workbench) and/or LS-DYNA.
- Site experience in construction, or commissioning of plant mechanical systems for nuclear or other heavy industries would be considered an asset.
- Must have basic knowledge of mechanical and nuclear piping systems or equipment.
- Knowledge of CANDU nuclear systems would be considered an asset.
- Must have excellent technical and practical skills to resolve engineering issues or technical problems.
- Working knowledge of CSA N285.0, CSA B51, CSA N289 and ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), Section III codes and any other applicable standards or regulatory guides related to power plant components, pressure boundary equipment, and/or reactor systems is preferred.
- Must be willing to become a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW), although this will not be a regular requirement as part of the position.
- Must have excellent communication and technical writing skills.
- Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
