Overview

Build your PMO career. Strengthen delivery. Make an impact.

At AtkinsRéalis, our PMO teams help bring structure, control and confidence to complex programmes. As a PMO Consultant within our Secure Government practice, you'll support delivery across important projects that contribute to national security and resilience, while continuing to build your own capability in a challenging and rewarding environment.

You'll join a collaborative PMO community and work alongside delivery, technical, commercial and transformation specialists who value strong controls, continuous improvement and shared learning. It's'a chance to develop your experience in a supportive environment while contributing to high-profile client outcomes.

This opportunity is well suited to PMO professionals with established experience who are confident leading defined areas of delivery and are ready to broaden their impact further in PMO leadership, financial management or risk management.

You'll benefit from

  • Purpose‑driven work at the heart of secure‑government delivery.
  • Hybrid working, with most time onsite to build relationships, access secure systems and operate effectively in high‑integrity delivery environments.
  • Clear opportunities to develop your PMO capability, build confidence in your area, and progress over time as your experience grows.
  • Advanced training, tools and frameworks, including financial controls, risk and assurance, planning, PMO transformation and change.
  • The AtkinsRéalis Certified Project Professional (ACPP) fast‑track route to APM Chartership.
  • A supportive PMO community with access to experienced colleagues, mentoring and practical development opportunities.
  • Inclusive networks (Women in Defence, Military networks, DE&I groups).
  • Meaningful work during the vetting process, if clearance is required.

Your role

As a PMO Consultant within our Delivery Optimisation sub-practice, you'll bring established PMO experience and the confidence to lead defined areas of delivery. This role is aimed at professionals who understand effective project controls and governance, can operate with a good degree of autonomy, and are ready to broaden their impact in a specialist area such as PMO leadership, financial management or risk management.

You'll work as part of multidisciplinary delivery teams to provide structure, coordination and insight across major secure-government programmes. Depending on your experience, you may lead specific PMO workstreams, own reporting cycles, support governance forums, manage risks and issues, or contribute to financial planning and performance management. You'll be expected to operate confidently in a client-facing environment, apply sound judgement, and help teams improve the quality and consistency of delivery controls.

This is a strong opportunity for someone who has built solid PMO experience and is now looking to broaden their impact, take ownership of defined areas, and further strengthen their professional practice in complex programme environments. We are particularly interested in candidates who combine core PMO capability with growing depth in either financial management or risk management.

All our roles are subject to a minimum of 3 days in the office, either onsite with our clients or at one of our AtkinsRéalis offices, (pro-rata'd for part-time employees). These particular roles are based in Cheltenham and Manchester, and we are looking for candidates who can commit to being onsite in Cheltenham or Manchester for a minimum of 4 days per week.

About you

We are looking for candidates with strong PMO experience who can confidently lead defined elements of delivery. This could suit someone who has already worked across governance, controls, reporting, financial management or risk management and is ready to apply that experience with greater autonomy in a complex programme environment. It may also suit someone with broad PMO capability who has developed stronger depth in finance or risk and is looking to build on that further.

Alongside this, you'll ideally bring:

  • Strong PMO experience across project or programme governance, controls, reporting and delivery coordination.
  • Experience of independently leading defined PMO activities, such as reporting cycles, governance coordination, control products, assurance support, financial tracking or risk management.
  • Strength in one or more of the following areas: core PMO leadership, financial management, or risk management.
  • The ability to work with data and tools such as Excel, Power BI, MS Project or similar to support effective decision-making.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with project teams, stakeholders and clients in a structured and professional way.
  • An understanding of PMO frameworks, delivery lifecycles and the importance of robust controls in complex environments.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach, with the judgement and professionalism to operate effectively in a client-facing delivery environment.
