Overview

Provide technical oversight and management of rolling stock systems throughout the project lifecycle, from procurement and delivery to testing, acceptance, and in-service operation.

Your role

  • Rolling Stock Vehicle design, testing, commissioning maintenance and operation analysis.
  • Involved in Rail System design to meet operational capacity and project functionality and performance requirements with special focus on the rolling stock vehicles.
  • Working with multiple teams (System Design teams, Track team, RCS team and the Requirements Management team) within the Automation Systems directorate on specification and delivery of various communication systems relevant to the rolling stock vehicle into the overall transit, urban rail and heavy freight project solutions.
  • Assistance with proposal development on an as-needed basis.
  • Support multiple consulting projects in Project Management, Proposal writing, technical specification writing, quality assurance.
  • Assistance with interfacing with design groups (communications, fixed facilities, etc.) and with external team members (architects, code consultants, major suppliers, etc.).
  • Support for testing & commissioning and setting to work of mass transit, urban rail and heavy freight signaling and control systems,
  • Manage technical aspects of rolling stock procurement, design review, manufacturing oversight, delivery, and acceptance activities
  • Review and comment on rolling stock technical specifications, design documents, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), maintenance manuals, and operational procedures
  • Define and manage interface requirements between rolling stock and fixed infrastructure including signalling (CBTC/ATC), traction power, platform gaps, and depot systems
  • Coordinate with the signalling, traction power, and telecoms teams to ensure full compatibility between rolling stock on-board systems and wayside infrastructure
  • Oversee Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) at the manufacturer's facility and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) on the receiving network
  • Monitor rolling stock fleet performance including MTBF, availability, reliability, and maintainability metrics; report findings to project management and the client
  • Manage warranty claims process with rolling stock manufacturers; coordinate investigations and track resolution of warranty defects
  • Investigate rolling stock failures and incidents; conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions to improve fleet reliability
  • Ensure compliance with applicable rolling stock standards (EN 50126, EN 12663, TSI, and relevant local regulations)
  • Review and contribute to RAMS analyses and rolling stock safety cases; support system assurance activities related to the vehicle subsystem
  • Prepare technical reports, fleet performance dashboards, and lessons learned documentation
  • Support the development of maintenance strategies, spare parts lists, and reliability growth plans for the in-service fleet.

Key Competencies

  • Strong understanding of rolling stock mechanical, electrical, and software systems.
  • Knowledge of RAMS principles and their application to rolling stock design and maintenance.
  • Experience with FAT/SAT processes and vehicle-infrastructure compatibility assessments.
  • Familiarity with relevant rolling stock standards and regulatory frameworks.

About you

  • B.S. or M.S. in Engineering preferred (Electrical Engineering preferred).
  • 15+ years' experience in engineering (10+ years' experience in rail and transit engineering in Middle East)
  • Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) is generally required. However, extensive experience may be substituted in lieu of licensing.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to actively participate in working sessions and discussions with team members, partners and suppliers.
  • Highly self-motivated; takes initiative and is able to work with limited direct supervision , able to work in a changing environment, including design offices, project offices, field environments, etc.
  • Familiarity with the design and selection of the various elements of Rail and Transit systems. Able to work in CAD design environment
  • Familiarity with generation of technical requirements and specifications in a project environment.
  • Must be able to travel to project/vendor sites
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Project, Visio and Access
  • Project Management skills and PMP certification are assets
  • Technical writing skills
  • Experience in, or demonstrated knowledge of, transportation planning, railway engineering, transportation engineering or communications systems.
