Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Architect with a strong background in the design and delivery of rail and metro station projects across the UK transport sector. The successful candidate will have proven experience leading multidisciplinary design teams through all project stages, from concept and optioneering through to detailed design and construction support.

The role requires extensive knowledge of Network Rail and Transport for London (TfL) design assurance, governance and approvals processes, together with a strong understanding of the unique operational, technical and passenger requirements associated with railway stations and transport interchanges.

The Senior Architect will provide technical leadership on complex station projects, ensuring architectural quality, passenger-focused design, accessibility, safety, sustainability and buildability objectives are fully integrated throughout the project lifecycle.

Your role

  • Lead the architectural design and technical delivery of rail and metro station projects across all design stages.
  • Develop station design solutions that respond to passenger flow, accessibility, operational requirements, safety, security and placemaking objectives.
  • Lead and coordinate architectural inputs within multidisciplinary teams comprising civil, structural, MEP, rail systems and operational specialists.
  • Manage the development of station designs through Engineering Stages/PACE and TfL project lifecycle stages, ensuring compliance with client governance requirements.
  • Act as the architectural lead during engagement with Network Rail, TfL, train operating companies, local authorities and key stakeholders.
  • Prepare and present design submissions for client reviews, technical assurance panels and approval gateways.
  • Actively contribute to studio culture in our Central London or Epsom offices, 3 days per week.
  • Ensure designs comply with:
    • Network Rail standards and guidance.
    • TfL design standards and requirements.
    • UK Building Regulations.
    • Equality Act and accessibility requirements.
    • Fire and life safety standards.
    • Relevant British and European Standards.
  • Oversee production and review of architectural deliverables including drawings, specifications, design reports and technical documentation.
  • Lead design reviews to ensure station architecture meets operational, commercial and passenger experience objectives.
  • Review consultant and contractor submissions for technical compliance, quality and constructability.
  • Identify and resolve design, coordination and interface issues across complex rail infrastructure projects.
  • Support bid preparation, tender submissions and project-winning activities.
  • Mentor and develop junior architects and technicians within the team.
