Overview
AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior EMT / HVDC Studies Specialist to lead and deliver advanced electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies for HVDC, large-scale generation, and grid interconnection projects across the UAE and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). The role supports strategic clients including TSOs, utilities, and developers, ensuring compliance with regional grid codes and international best practices.
The position focuses on HVDC-related EMT studies, including network equivalent and benchmarking, Sub-Synchronous Resonance (SSR), Sub-Synchronous Torsional Interaction (SSTI), and Transmission Line Reclosing (TLR), insulation coordination for complex networks involving series compensation, inverter-based resources, and weak grid condition.
Your role
- Lead and execute EMT studies for LCC and VSC-HVDC schemes, FACTS devices, and large interconnection projects using PSCAD/EMTDC.
- Perform SSR, SSTI, and TLR studies for HVDC-connected generators and series-compensated transmission systems.
- Support interconnection studies for utility-scale generation, HVDC links, and large inverter-based loads.
- Review, validate, and benchmark OEM-provided EMT and dynamic models against RMS tools (e.g., PSSE).
- Assess system performance during faults, switching events, control interactions, and protection operations.
- Develop and recommend mitigation measures including control tuning, protection adjustments, filtering, and network reinforcements.

About you
- Master's degree or higher in Electrical Power Engineering.
- 8–12+ years of experience in power system studies, with strong focus on EMT and HVDC applications.
- Proven delivery of SSR, SSTI, and TLR studies for HVDC or series-compensated systems.
- Advanced proficiency in PSCAD/EMTDC; working knowledge of PSSE and RMS-to-EMT benchmarking.
- Solid understanding of HVDC controls, inverter-based resources, weak grid behavior, and protection coordination.

Additional information
Expected compensation for this role is between $125,000 - $171,900 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
