Within Canada, our Rail & Transit team has been selected to design and deliver most of the recent Greenfield and Brownfield LRT, ALRT and Light Metro jobs awarded in the last 15 years including the Trillium Line (Ottawa), Le Réseau express métropolitain (Montreal), Canada Line, Calgary West LRT, Edmonton North LRT, the Evergreen Line and the Confederation Line. We are actively working on delivering the Alto High Speed Rail (Quebec City to Toronto), Eglinton-Crosstown (Toronto), Calgary Green Line LRT, and have a number of other projects at the proposal stage or awaiting award. In addition, the Human Factors team works with a number of international clients outside of Canada.

Our Rail & Transit Engineering team deliver systems solutions that include alignment and track, traction power and distribution, signaling and train control, and communications. One of the key components of our systems delivery is Human Factors encompassing the engineering work required to manage the complex engineering of systems, sub-systems and components of a rail transit project in accordance with international standards. In light of our current and future workloads, our Systems Engineering and Integration directorate is looking for a Senior Human Factors Specialist, reporting to the Human Factors Manager in Calgary. To perform this role successfully, the individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

Your role

  • Development of Human Factors processes and documentation
  • Support of Systems Integration and Safety processes and documentation
  • Support of Systems Delivery processes and documentation
  • Interaction with Design and Construction Technical Leads
  • Support for Safety/ System Assurance/V&V/ Requirements Management teams in the delivery of mass transit, urban rail and heavy freight signaling and control systems.
  • Provide high quality consultancy services to the rail industry in the field of Human Factors
  • Support of all aspects of Human Factors assignments undertaken for clients including estimating, tendering, planning and execution
  • Ensure that excellent client communication is maintained and work is completed on time, to budget, and to the client's satisfaction
  • Create, manage and maintain effective cross-functional, interdepartmental relationships to promote Human Factors and ensure the organization delivers the most valuable service to customers
  • Identify opportunities to develop the Human Factors client and work package base
  • Supervise junior Human Factors Specialists and provide review for Human Factors Deliverables

About you

  • Bachelor's degree in human factors or a related discipline such as psychology, ergonomics, engineering or industrial design.
  • Human Factors professional certification with a recognized human factors professional verification body such as CCCPE, BCPE, CIEHF.
  • 15+ years of experience of delivering Human Factors work packages within rail, oil and gas, or other high hazard regulated industries with at least 2 years experience in Railway projects.
  • Experience of planning and applying Human Factors Integration (HFI) and Human Factors processes, standards, requirements and techniques to engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of relevant Canadian and international human factors standards/guidance and their application.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
  • Evidence of a commitment to technical excellence and continued professional development.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and client-facing skills.
