The AMAALA Project: Redefining sustainability on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Coast

The AMAALA Project: Redefining sustainability on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Coast

What is the AMAALA project in Saudi Arabia?

The AMAALA project is an ambitious ultra-luxury tourism development along Saudi Arabia's stunning Red Sea coast. It is a cornerstone of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, blending sustainability, innovation, and exclusivity.

Encompassing over 4,000 square kilometeres, the project features three distinct areas: Triple Bay, The Island, and the Coastal Development, each designed to cater to wellness, leisure, and cultural experiences.

Central to the AMAALA vision is its commitment to environmental conservation, reserving 95% of the area for natural habitats while creating sustainable and luxurious destinations.

A hub for marine science and immersive experiences

We are proudly involved in one of AMAALA's key attractions: the Red Sea Marine Life Institute (RSMLI), a world-class research and exhibition facility. This institute highlights AMAALA's dedication to marine preservation and education, showcasing the beauty and ecological importance of the Red Sea.

Coral-inspired architecture

The RSMLI building's design mirrors the unique forms of Red Sea coral. Its innovative superstructure consists of polyp-inspired modules that create a visually stunning canopy, seamlessly integrating with the natural environment. Within these coral-shaped chambers, visitors can explore immersive exhibits across multiple levels, including:

  • Aquariums showcasing marine biodiversity.
  • Submarine research and immersive experiences.
  • Cutting-edge research facilities for coral regeneration.

The highlight is a 40-meter-long, 10-meter-deep artificial reef, among the largest in the world, exemplifying the commitment to marine conservation and education.

The coral regeneration journey

The coral regeneration facility is an interactive scientific zone where researchers and visitors can witness the latest advancements in coral reproduction techniques, such as IVF and fragging. The open-plan design invites the public to learn about the ongoing efforts to rehabilitate coral reefs, making science accessible to all.

The grand reveal area

At the heart of RSMLI is the Grand Reveal Area, which offers visitors a breathtaking view of the Red Sea's coral reefs from a simulated depth of 10 meters. This 28-meter-tall space immerses guests in a one-of-a-kind experience, highlighting the institute's work in rehabilitating marine species and growing coral for transplantation into the wild.

Supporting Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030

As part of the AMAALA project location, the RSMLI aligns with Saudi Arabia's vision for economic diversification and environmental stewardship. Through its innovative approach to development, we are contributing to sustainable growth while promoting global marine conservation efforts.

AtkinsRéalis also plays a critical role in the broader AMAALA project Saudi Arabia, providing end-to-end engineering services, sustainable expertise, and digital solutions to help shape this visionary destination. The collaboration demonstrates how technology and creativity can create unique lifestyle destinations while minimizing environmental impact.

A transformative project with global impact

The AMAALA project represents an exciting leap forward in both sustainable marine conservation and luxury tourism in Saudi Arabia.

We are playing a key role in bringing this transformative vision to life, providing end-to-end engineering services and leveraging expertise in digital and sustainable solutions. As this ambitious project progresses, there are incredible opportunities to be part of this journey.

If you're passionate about contributing to groundbreaking projects like AMAALA and shaping the future of sustainable development in Saudi Arabia, explore career opportunities with AtkinsRéalis Saudi Arabia.
