Overview

Our highly respected and successful Environmental Assessment and Community Engagement (EA&CE) Prairies Region team has an ever-growing portfolio of work, built on technical excellence and exceptional service to our clients, with a particular need for support on our infrastructure, power, and renewables projects.

We are looking for Biologists with preferably 5 years' experience to support on biological assessment, monitoring, reporting and field-based surveys across a wide variety of energy and infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate must have strong work experience in the biological sciences, with a specialism in either wildlife biology, vegetation or aquatic biology. You will be motivated and detail-oriented, with demonstrable experience in Canada. Your day-to-day work will include field surveys, habitat assessment and/or construction environmental monitoring, including identifying environmental risks, preparing reports and data reporting against accepted standards.

Location: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, or Calgary, AB. Other office locations across the Prairie Region could be considered, e.g., Edmonton, Regina, Winnipeg.

Your role

  • Assist in the preparation of regulatory approval and permitting applications and support relationships with regulatory agencies and construction contractors.
  • Plan, coordinate and conduct biological surveys in accordance with applicable protocols/methods. Conducts environmental desktop research.
  • Act as a key resource for diverse set of environmental assessment and permitting projects. Assist in conducting Species At Risk surveys and assessments.
  • Field-based environmental monitoring for project compliance during construction phase relevant to environmental management requirements, as well as prepare environmental monitoring and mitigation plans.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical data reports and confirm technical quality of work including field methods.
  • Provides field-level guidance on practical environmental protection to prevent or minimize project impacts on environmental receptors.
  • Assist construction activities in resolving environmental issues/non-compliance issues on projects as they arise. Conduct environmental sampling when required (e.g., water and soil).

About you

  • Post-secondary education (Relevant University degree, diploma or graduation from a technical program).
  • Full or provisional membership in a professional body e.g., P. Biol, CWB preferred, or registered B.I.T. near submission for professional status.
  • Preferably 5 years' experience planning, conducting and/or managing biological studies (e.g., wildlife, vegetation, wetlands, fish and fish habitat studies).
  • Knowledge and understanding of Prairies Region habitats, and working knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation and regulatory process, and the current survey protocols in SK/AB/MB/other relevant.
  • Proficiency in data collection, data management and statistical analysis. Experience on construction sites in an environmental capacity. Detail-oriented, meticulous with field notes and methodologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to write data reports. Proven ability to develop and implement practical mitigation and management plans.
  • Positive attitude and flexibility to work independently or in a multi-disciplinary team. Demonstrated professionalism and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.

Please note that some work for this position may be in remote locations for extended periods of time and may require overtime, weekends and variable hours
