Overview

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an Intermediate or Senior Code Consultant/Fire Protection Engineer to support complex infrastructure projects across Canada. This role focuses on the application and interpretation of Canadian building and fire codes, with an emphasis on integrated code compliance and alternative solutions.

The successful candidate will support regulated projects across nuclear, defence, industrial, and other high-reliability sectors, providing practical, code-based solutions and technical leadership. Experience with nuclear codes and standards is considered a definite asset.

This is a client-facing position requiring strong technical expertise, clear communication, and the ability to collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams.

Your role

  • Provide code consulting services related to building code, fire code, and life safety compliance.
  • Develop and support fire and life safety strategies.
  • Prepare and review code reports, fire and life safety strategies, technical memoranda, and design narratives.
  • Review drawings and specifications for compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Coordinate with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and project management teams to resolve code-related issues.
  • Interface with clients, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), and third-party reviewers.
  • Support business development and represent the fire protection discipline internally and externally.
  • For Senior-level candidates: provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of internal processes, technical tools, and best practices.

About you

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Diploma in Fire Protection Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) or eligibility for licensure is an asset.
  • 5–10 years of relevant experience in fire protection engineering or code consulting. Experience producing clear, well-structured technical reports with minimal supervision. Strong working knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), National Fire Code of Canada (NFCC), and applicable provincial codes. Knowledge of relevant fire protection standards, including UL/ULC, NFPA, and CSA. Knowledge of nuclear codes and standards is a definite asset, including CSA N293, N393, and related regulatory frameworks.
  • Understanding of life safety principles, fire-resistance requirements, and integrated code compliance. UL Solutions Integrated System Testing Certification (CAN/ULC-S1001) is an asset.
  • Ability to communicate complex code concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Ability to support multi-disciplinary projects in regulated environments. Strong collaboration, organization, and client engagement skills.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance.
  • Valid driver's license.

Expected compensation for this role is between Pay Range $80,000 - $110,000 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
