Overview
The Engineering Services Division is seeking an Intermediate or Senior Fire Protection Specialist to support various projects across Canada. Our team focuses on major infrastructure programs within the Nuclear, Defence, Industrial, and Critical facilities sectors.
This role is suited to an innovative, technically strong professional who applies fire protection principles and fire safety science to deliver pragmatic solutions to the built environment. The position involves direct engagement with clients, regulators, and multidisciplinary teams and offers opportunities for technical leadership and mentoring. This is a client facing role that requires excellent communication and project management skills.
Your role
- Lead the design and delivery of fire suppression systems, including preparation of drawings, calculations, specifications, and technical reports.
- Develop fire protection engineering studies, system narratives, and compliance documentation.
- Participate in field reviews, inspections, onsite engineering tests, and commissioning activities.
- Coordinate fire protection scope with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and process engineering teams as part of integrated project delivery.
- Represent AtkinsRéalis' fire protection discipline in discussions with external clients and key stakeholders.
For Senior‑level candidates:
- Provide technical leadership on complex projects.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers and technologists.
- Contribute to continuous improvement, best practices, and knowledge sharing across the fire protection team.

About you
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Diploma in Fire Protection Engineering Technology, or related discipline.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with PEO or eligible to be registered.
- 5–10 years' experience in fire protection / fire suppression engineering. Experience in independently preparing technical reports that clearly outline objectives with minimal guidance from senior team members.
- Experience in nuclear fire protection engineering and familiarity with CSA standards (e.g., CSA N293, N393) is an asset.
- Advanced proficiency in Revit, AutoSPRINK, and/or HydraCAD is required.
- Working knowledge of NBCC, NFCC, provincial codes, and applicable fire protection standards (UL, NFPA, CSA). Hands on experience with application of NFPA 13, 14, 15, 20, 24 is required. UL Solutions Integrated System Testing Certification (CAN/ULC-1001) is an asset.
- Working knowledge of Fire pump sizing, fire pump layouts as per NFPA 13; Sprinkler spacing, sprinkler piping, in-depth understanding of NFPA-13 is required.
- Able to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to non‑technical audiences and senior stakeholders. Proven ability to manage differing viewpoints and present sound engineering positions. Ability to cross over multi-disciplinary project teams. Collaborative approach and good communication skills.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain federal security clearance.
- Valid driver's license.

Expected compensation for this role is between Pay Range $90,000 - $120,000 annually (Only Applicable to British Columbia or Ontario). Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
