Manager of Building Structures team - Industrial

Overview

We are seeking a Manager of Building Structures team - Industrial to join our team in Exton, PA.

AtkinsRéalis is looking for a structural engineer to lead a design team that will work on fast-paced technically complex design/build projects in the manufacturing and pharmaceutical industries. The incumbent independently applies advanced engineering techniques, makes decisions on engineering problems and methods, and represents the organization to resolve important questions or negotiate with key engineers and officials in other organizations.

Your role

Typical duties and essential functions will include but not be limited to the preparation, design, modification, coordination, and/or review of the following:

  • Perform technical and quality review of deliverables performed by direct reports and other engineers within the structural department.

  • Sign and seal projects, performed under your technical supervision, when the lead engineer does not have a PE in the state where the work is performed.

  • Occasional travel to other AtkinsRealis offices or project sites.

  • Provide technical support during construction for all activities by responding to RFI's'and reviewing shop drawings.

  • Determine member stresses and sizes using structural analysis programs and backcheck results using manual calculations.

  • Design multi-story steel framed structures for offices, warehouses, or transit stations.

  • Design concrete walls, foundations, and slabs for buildings, canopies and miscellaneous structures.

  • Supervise the generation of engineering drawings.

  • Assist in the development of department standards and procedures.

  • Coordinate requirements of structural systems with the architect, HVAC engineers, plumbing engineers, electrical engineers, and process engineers.

  • Provide technical support during construction for all activities by responding to RFI's'and reviewing shop drawings.

  • Provide technical guidance to designers and less experienced engineers.

  • Execute projects varying in size with a focus on projects of larger scope and/or higher technical complexity.

  • Ensure the quality of design documents and other department deliverables.

  • Reinforce an atmosphere of safety and a commitment to design excellence.

  • Work directly with clients to define project requirements and deliver appropriate solutions to meet the stated needs based on a defined budget and schedule. This work is done in conjunction with structural engineering team members, and members of other disciplines.

  • May participate in pursuing new project opportunities for firm by maintaining contacts with current and prospective clients.

  • Works with Practice and Technical Directors to design and implement development tracks for technical staff, with a focus on building technical excellence at all levels of the organization.

  • Monitor and enforce compliance with established quality control standards, ensuring that appropriate quality assurance activities are being performed throughout the operating unit.

  • Ensure appropriate staff allocation to projects in consideration of project schedules, budgets, key milestone dates and work products.

  • Conduct semi-annual performance reviews and annual career planning sessions with direct reports. Responsible for performance management and career development of direct reports.

About you

  • ​Bachelor of Science degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with an emphasis on structural engineering. Post graduate degree preferred. Management coursework and/or MBA a plus.

  • A Professional Engineer License is required.

  • Ability to obtain professional engineering licenses in additional states.

  • 15+ years of experience in structural design.

  • 2+ years of experience in management or supervisory responsibilities.

  • Experience with retrofit projects is preferred.

  • RISA, STAAD.Pro or Tekla Tedds software experience is a plus.

  • Experience in industrial projects is required.

  • Revit experience is preferred AutoCAD experience is a plus.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills allowing for effective communication in multidisciplinary project teams involving representatives from the client, various departments/offices within AtkinsRéalis, and other consultants and contractors.

  • Results-oriented, with good organizational skills, attention to detail, and the capability of efficiently working simultaneously on multiple projects.

  • Positive perspective with the ability to engender a team attitude amongst colleagues and clients.

Additional information

Expected compensation range is between $185,000 - $220,000 annually depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
