Overview

In this role, you as the Project Manager will be accountable for the successful completion of an assigned portfolio of projects varying in size and complexity. Reporting to the Program Director, you will be accountable for the overall project execution, ensuring that the projects are delivered within contract requirements, meeting company and Client standards of quality and safety as well as performance expectations. You will need to understand and manage complex practical, technical and commercial issues and have proven capability of working constructively with a broad range of stakeholders, leading project teams that are either local to you or across multiple locations. You will have excellent communication, listening, stakeholder management and influencing skills and capable of managing client relationships up to senior level, and engage constructively with multiple stakeholders. You will enjoy turning your hand to new challenges and will be keen to learn, whilst also wanting to support others within our diverse multi-disciplinary teams. You must also be able to successfully manage the commercial and quality performance of projects and proactively deploy a range of project management techniques to control delivery, cost, and schedule, as well as manage quality, risk and change.

Your role

To perform this role successfully, the individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Accountable for all aspects of the project and to lead all team members who are performing duties to ensure that the work progresses meeting all safety, quality, schedule, cost, and contractual requirements.

  • Working with all internal stakeholders, partners, taking responsibility for planning, coordinating and managing the delivery of projects within your portfolio.

  • Direct and demonstrable experience of applying a range of project management principles and skills to deliver successful project outcomes on a diverse range of engineering/technical projects.

  • Apply appropriate key performance indicators to monitor project health and performance and establish rigorous reporting protocols that meet all requirements of the contract, corporate standards and project-specific oversight as established by senior management or customer.

  • Ensure that all project activities are performed in accordance with corporate standards of ethical compliance, cyber-security, import-export regulations, intellectual property protections and security clearance protocols.

  • Develop and implement project execution strategies, working with the client to ensure all project commercial and technical scope is effectively addressed within the project execution plan, whilst ensuring compliance with the prime contract.

  • Ensure that all formal approvals for project bids, changes and settlements are prepared and approved in accordance with corporate Level of Authority (LoA) procedures.

  • Approval of hours of work (e.g. timesheet approvals, overtime approvals, vacation authorization) for assigned scope/projects in accordance with company policies, project policies and any applicable collective agreements.

  • Approval of Purchase Orders and Project Change Orders within the company or project tiered limits of authority – frequently one of several required approvals.

  • Authorized to represent Company to client or suppliers with respect to project work and has signing authority for project correspondence, invoices, work orders etc., subject to company limits of authority.

  • Communicate with all levels of management, engineering, procurement, quality, and project representatives on the progress of the project milestones /deliverables.

  • Facilitate and participate in resolution of unanticipated or unplanned activities to bring projects back on plan.

  • Manage, track and monitor project activity and performance, (schedule & budget), actively managing and reporting any deviations.

  • Initiate and assist with processing of client invoices and manage invoice aging.

  • Provide weekly/monthly project status reports as required to customers, internal and external.

  • Provide input to continuously improve performance of the project operations through process improvements and manage relationships with key stakeholders to support the growth of this business.

  • Provides feedback and effective recommendations into functional performance review processes.

  • Provides feedback and effective recommendations into functional hire/fire/discipline processes.

  • Makes effective decision/recommendation (or responsible for) with respect to resourcing requirements on the project (i.e. hiring and firing within the project).

  • Direct experience of taking full responsibility for project delivery, demonstrating accountability for quality, time, cost and technical performance parameters agreed with client.

  • Responsible for supporting the proposal process for similar new work incl. helping drive proposal deadlines, championing the proposal with the client through internal review processes.

  • Actively supports the proposals team with the necessary project knowledge and technical expertise to ensure the competitiveness of the proposals.

  • Performance driven and able to motivate self and teams and create a strong project delivery culture.

  • A strong element of client relationship management and people leadership.

About you

  • Degree qualified in an Engineering or Science-based discipline, and/or hold a professional Project or Programme Management related qualification.

  • Five to ten years of project management experience.

  • Proficient technical knowledge and process support skills, including a good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Proven ability to effectively coach and mentor other team members.

  • Ability to maintain good relationships with clients.

  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to quickly grasp and properly appreciate problems and deal with them swiftly in the interest of the project.

  • Ability to work extended hours due to project deadlines and spontaneous demands to accommodate project and client requirements.

  • Ability to use initiative and judgment in an environment of changing/conflicting priorities.

  • Strong work organization and time management skills.

  • Driven by customer needs, with a focus on quality, excellence, and safety.

  • Knowledge of the nuclear industry; clients and operations are an asset.

  • Able to work productively and seamlessly across multi-functional teams to enable an efficient project management process.

  • Technically savvy, with the ability to understand and lead technical activities and discussions with diverse groups ranging from Engineering and Procurement to Clients and Suppliers.

  • Proficient in presenting regular formal reports to senior internal and client management stakeholders.

  • Self-motivated, with the ability to process diverse and complex information and clearly define a path forward.

  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.

  • Understanding of project delivery methodologies, including earned value, critical path scheduling, prime contract and subcontract management, procurement and supply chain methodology, and inspection and test plans.

  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.

  • Effective verbal, written, and presentation communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
