As a Senior Bridge Engineer in our Bridges and Civils team within our Transportation business based in Cardiff, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of transportation. We work on a number of exciting, high-profile projects and frameworks for our many key Clients within our Strategic Highways, Local Transport & Rail markets as well as wider non-transportation projects both in the UK and overseas. On a local basis, in Wales, AtkinsRéalis are currently the Primary Consultant for the Central Region of the South Wales Trunk Road Agent (SWTRA) Framework, whilst also being a Consultant on the South West & Mid Wales Regional Civil Engineering Consultancy Framework (SWMWRCES), South East Wales Technical and Professional Services (SEWTAPS) Framework, Transport for Wales's'ECS3 Frameworks and the North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent (NMWTRA) Framework. AtkinsRéalis are also delivering the Cardiff Central Station enhancement design. We are actively delivering exciting local projects through each of these key frameworks, whilst there is a significant pipeline of future works which you could deliver as a key part of our local Bridges & Civils Team.

Your role

  • The role will be varied, requiring a balance of relevant industry experience, technical ability, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven knowledge in design, maintenance and supervision of civils or structures related projects together with a track record of innovation in design and management of highway structures or the rail environment.
  • Practical knowledge and experience of bridge design, maintenance and assessment or delivery of Civil Engineering works within highway and railway environment.
  • Use analytical skills to derive potential solutions to engineering problems and engineering judgement to appraise different options and recommend the most suitable option.
  • Ability to oversee the production of and review high quality design documentation including sketches, drawings, calculations, reports and specifications.
  • Experience of working with key clients such as Network Rail, Local Authorities, Developers and major Contractors.
  • Experience of work winning and developing Client relationships.
  • Good understanding of relevant design standards (e.g. DMRB, MCHW, Eurocodes, Network Rail Standards).
  • Ability to develop and agree scopes and manage the internal technical supply chain, including budgets, programme and quality of deliverables, delivering within set time frame.

About you

  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
  • A professional qualification (CEng/IEng) and membership of the ICE or IStructE.
  • Experience of structural analysis software packages such as LUSAS, MIDAS and Autodesk Structural Bridge Design.
  • Proven knowledge in design, maintenance and supervision of structures related projects together with a track record of innovation in design and management of highway structures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to converse with a wide range of clients, stakeholders and colleagues across a number of engineering disciplines.
  • Good project management skills, commercial awareness, financial control and ability to deliver across a range of contract types. This will include an ability to manage stakeholders, e.g. specialist suppliers, independent checkers and local authorities.
