Overview

The Senior Environmental Engineer will be responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, project-specific environmental requirements, and sustainability objectives throughout the construction and site supervision phases of large-scale building, convention center, hospitality, and mixed-use development projects. The role involves monitoring environmental performance, supporting environmental risk management, and advising the project team on best practices to minimize environmental impacts.

Your role

Environmental Compliance & Monitoring

  • Ensure compliance with Saudi Arabian environmental regulations, municipal requirements, and project environmental commitments.
  • Monitor construction activities for dust emissions, noise levels, air quality, wastewater management, and hazardous material handling.
  • Verify implementation of environmental mitigation measures to minimize impacts on surrounding communities and natural resources.
  • Maintain records of environmental inspections, monitoring data, permits, approvals, and compliance documentation.
  • Support investigations of environmental incidents and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Sustainability & Environmental Management

  • Promote sustainable construction practices and environmental stewardship across all project activities.
  • Support implementation of sustainability goals related to energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, and resource management.
  • Review and monitor environmental performance against project sustainability targets and environmental objectives.
  • Coordinate with design and construction teams to identify opportunities for environmental improvements throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assist in achieving sustainability certification requirements where applicable.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Liaise with contractors, consultants, regulatory authorities, and client representatives on environmental matters.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide professional advice on environmental compliance and risk management.
  • Support environmental submissions and responses required by government agencies and approval authorities.
  • Coordinate environmental awareness initiatives and training programs for project teams and contractors.
  • Collaborate with HSE and quality teams to ensure integrated project compliance and performance.

Reporting & Documentation

Prepare weekly and monthly environmental performance reports for client and project management review.

Review contractor environmental reports and verify accuracy of monitoring records and compliance data.

Maintain comprehensive environmental documentation, registers, permits, and audit records.

Identify environmental risks and provide recommendations to mitigate potential project impacts.

Track environmental KPIs and communicate performance trends and compliance status to project stakeholders.

About you

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering with
  • Environmental Specialization, or a related discipline.
  • Master's Degree in Environmental Engineering or Sustainability is an advantage.
  • Professional certifications related to environmental management or sustainability are preferred.
  • Membership in a recognized professional engineering or environmental organization is desirable.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 12-15 years of professional experience in environmental engineering and environmental compliance.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in construction supervision or site supervision consultancy projects.
  • Proven experience on large-scale building developments, convention centers, hotels, resorts, or mixed-use developments.
  • Experience working on projects within the GCC region, preferably in Saudi Arabia.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of environmental permitting, monitoring, auditing, and sustainability implementation on construction projects.

Technical Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, environmental management systems, and construction environmental practices.
  • Experience in environmental auditing, compliance inspections, environmental monitoring, and reporting.
  • Understanding of waste management, pollution prevention, water management, and environmental risk assessments.
  • Familiarity with sustainability frameworks and green building rating systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and environmental data management tools.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
