Overview
Power Grid Division is involved in electricity utilities sector in the UK & I, Canada, US, ME and APAC. We provide value-added engineering services and built solutions across the entire spectrum of electricity networks, from high voltage power transmission grids to low voltage industrial power distribution. We have designed HV Substations upto 400kV and Electrical infrastructure for large industrial/ Multi Use developments and Heavy industries. The team provides services to clients across the globe, however the major clients are in UK and Middle East.
The Power T&D team is looking for experienced Sr. Principal engineers in HV Plant Discipline, as we look to grow the team in line with business requirements. Your role
Using your experience and knowledge, you will be leading the delivery of a variety of projects drawing upon the wider team for the technical engineering requirements and building a strong relationship with our clients. You will be client-facing, responsible for the delivery of our work and making sure it meets our client's'expectations.
You will be taking up the following responsibilities:
- Experience of undertaking FEED or Detailed design of HV and EHV (132kV to 765kV) AIS , GIS and HVDC Substations
- Detail understanding on both LCC & VSC HVDC technologies.
- Hands on experience in preparation of detailed primary deliverables / drawings such as Single Line Diagram, Layout, Convertor station layout, Elevation, Clearance diagram, Erection key diagram, Control room building layouts, Cable trench details and layouts, Cable routing layouts etc.
- Experience in preparation of BOQ's, Specifications and Data sheets for Primary Equipment's.
- Prepare HVDC Performance Specifications, Converter Station and Equipment specifications
- Hands on Experience on Power system studies involving Network modelling, simulation, analysis and Validation of HVDCs using PSCAD Software. Knowledge of OEM models of HVDCs and Library models in PSCAD Software
- Support and solve queries during construction, testing and commissioning, attend site meetings and inspections.
- Report Writing Skills.
- Preparation of bid documents and bid evaluations.
- Ensure interdisciplinary coordination.
- Contribute to Tendering activities by supporting with preliminary design documentation & drawings, Bill of Quantities, Engineering Man Hour Estimates etc.
- Lead HV Plant design on a project and engage with junior engineers & graduate engineers.
- Mentoring other engineers and help them become better engineers.
- Manage the team and actively involve in finding the requirements of engineers and find ways to fulfil.
- Provide engineering support and solve queries during construction, testing and commissioning, attend site meetings and inspections.

About you
Technical Qualifications & Experience
- Graduate/Post-Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering with around 15+ years of relevant experience in HV and EHV Substation design and engineering.
- Ability to produce design documentation – Design Basis Report, Case Studies and Project Design Specification.
- Be competent to check the design drawings & documents produced by other engineers.
- Member of IET & working towards Chartered Engineer accreditation.
- Desirable – Meet the requirements of National Grid, UK – for TP141 assessment.
- Experience of working UK National Grid / SSEN substation projects / EPC Contractor.
- Experience as Commissioning engineer will be added advantage.
- HVDC design experience
- Basic understanding on HVDC protection & Control.
- OHL design experience. (optional)
- HV Cable design experience. (optional)
- Experience of Working Groups and Technical committees such as CIGRE, IEC, AS, BS, IS and IEEE.
- Travel to client place as required.
Behavioural requirements
- Strong English Communication Skills needed to co-ordinate with client and other internal stake holders.
- Be a part of the team which is working at different geographical locations and co-ordinate for the needs of the project.
- Flexibility to travel to client sites when required.
- Capability to work under tight deadlines while achieving objectives with the ability to deal with competing priorities and manage time appropriately.
