Transport Planner and Strategic Transport Modeller

Epsom, Surrey, England, United Kingdom

Overview

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an experienced Transport Planner with strategic transport modelling experience to join our growing South East Movement & Place team.

You'll play a leading role in the development and application of transport models that inform major investment decisions across the UK. Working alongside transport planners, modellers, economists, data analysts and engineers, you'll help clients understand how people travel today, forecast future demand and assess the impacts of transport schemes, policies and development proposals.

This role offers the opportunity to lead technical projects, manage client relationships and contribute to some of the region's most significant transport and infrastructure programmes. From strategic transport studies and business cases to major highway, public transport, active travel and regeneration projects, your work will provide the evidence needed to support better transport outcomes and sustainable growth. Our South East team delivers work for local authorities, combined authorities, National Highways, developers and other public and private sector clients. We are also at the forefront of digital innovation, helping clients harness data, modelling and analytics to support transport planning and decarbonisation objectives.

Your role

As part of our transport modelling team, you will:

  • Lead and deliver transport modelling and appraisal projects from inception through to completion.
  • Develop, manage and apply strategic and multi-modal transport models to assess future travel demand and network performance.
  • Advise clients on modelling approaches, forecasting assumptions, appraisal methodologies and evidence requirements.
  • Manage project programmes, budgets and technical quality.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, stakeholders and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Present findings and recommendations to clients, stakeholders and project boards.
  • Analyse transport, economic and demographic data to understand travel behaviour and future trends.
  • Test transport schemes, development proposals and future scenarios to support evidence-based decision making.
  • Support business cases, funding submissions and economic appraisal studies.
  • Mentor and support junior team members, helping to develop modelling capability across the business.
  • Contribute to business development activities, framework opportunities and proposal submissions.
