Our Water Management Consultancy (WMC) team specialises in the environmental management of water resources, helping clients understand and address challenges ranging from water quality deterioration and water scarcity to river restoration, flooding, groundwater protection and ecological resilience.
We are seeking enthusiastic Junior and Assistant Consultants to join our growing Water Management Consultancy team in Ireland.
This is an exciting opportunity for early-career professionals who are passionate about freshwater environments and want to apply their scientific knowledge to real-world environmental challenges. Successful candidates will work alongside experienced hydrologists, hydrogeologists, freshwater ecologists, hydro-ecologists and catchment scientists on a wide range of projects throughout Ireland and the UK.

- Water quality and pollution pressures.
- River and lake ecology.
- Hydrology and water resources.
- Groundwater and hydrogeology.
- River processes and hydromorphology.
- Catchment management and restoration.
- Water Framework Directive (WFD) compliance.
- Nature-based solutions and river restoration.
- Water abstraction and environmental sustainability.
Your role
Depending on your interests and experience, you will support a range of activities including:
- Freshwater ecological field surveys and monitoring.
- Water quality monitoring, sampling, analysis and interpretation.
- Hydrological data collection, management and analysis.
- Groundwater investigations and hydrogeological assessments.
- River habitat, geomorphological and hydromorphological surveys.
- Catchment characterisation and environmental assessment.
- Data management, visualisation and reporting.
- Statistical analysis and modelling.
- Literature reviews and evidence gathering.
- Supporting Water Framework Directive and environmental regulatory assessments.
- Assisting in the development of river restoration, natural flood management and catchment management solutions.
- Preparation of technical reports, figures and client deliverables.
- Supporting multidisciplinary teams delivering major infrastructure and environmental projects.

Essential Requirements
- Bachelor Degree in a relevant discipline.
- MSc in a relevant discipline.
- Strong and demonstrable interest in freshwater and water-related environmental issues.
- Good understanding of one or more of the following:
- Freshwater ecology
- Hydrology
- Hydrogeology
- Hydromorphology / fluvial geomorphology
- Water quality
- Catchment management
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
- Full driving licence or willingness to obtain one.
Desirable Skills & Knowledge
Candidates do not need experience in all areas, but understanding and knowledge of, and an interest in developing expertise in, the following would be advantageous:
- Water Framework Directive (WFD).
- River Basin Management Planning.
- Freshwater biodiversity.
- Water quality monitoring and assessment.
- Statistical or data-analysis software.
- Hydrological or hydraulic modelling.
- Groundwater assessment.
- Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
- Appropriate Assessment (AA) / Natura Impact Statement.
- River restoration and fish passage.
- Nature-based solutions.
- Natural flood management.
- Environmental legislation and policy.
