Bid Lead - Major Bids & Strategy

Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Bids & Strategy, Bid Lead is responsible for preparing complex and strategic proposals on behalf of the Nuclear Canada Business Unit. In this capacity, the Bid Lead is responsible for the proposal development lifecycle; coordinating and producing proposals in response to a client inquiry (Request for Proposals, Expressions of Interest, Tenders, Budgetary Estimates, Qualifications, etc.) while assembling a proposal team with the relevant service, product and business knowledge required to win.

This is a highly networked role that requires an ability to work collaboratively with multiple functions and deliver under pressure and to challenging deadlines.

Your Role

  • Leads and manages a designated bid team, consisting of technical, project management, commercial, legal, procurement and other key stakeholders, as required, to develop and submit major bid-compliant, high-quality proposals that meet the customers' needs as well as AtkinsRéalis' business objectives, on time within established proposal budgets.
  • Facilitates proposal kickoff meetings and regular proposal progress status meetings.
  • Creates the proposal template and/or outline and obtains content, estimates and other inputs, as required, from the appropriate supporting groups to create a complaint and competitive proposal.
  • Reviews, edits, and provides guidance on the creation of cover letters, executive summaries, and other key parts of proposals. Takes leadership to author proposal sections that are not technically or commercially specific.
  • Maintains the CRM database with accurate and timely updates (e.g., Start Date, Price, Go/Get information, etc.)
  • Adheres to all Corporate Policies and Procedures including Compliance, Risk and Levels of Authority.
  • Manage all necessary activities to ensure that all required approvals are obtained prior to bid submission.
  • Facilitate risk workshops, together with the risk management team.
  • Facilitates proposal reviews, including Red Team and Gold Team reviews. Anticipates and mitigates potential delays to proposal submission, ensuring on-time delivery of the proposal approvals. Should the plan become 'at-risk,' facilitates a review of the bid/no-bid decision with key necessary stakeholders.
  • Enforces corporate-approved branding and style guidelines to ensure an appealing, high-quality, consistent look and feel for all outgoing bids.
  • Ensure that the company's Code of Ethics and Business Conduct is always adhered to at the highest level.
  • Highlight and take necessary action in the case of any potential conflicts of interest (COI), adhering to all project related COI disclosure requirements.
  • Leads the facilitation of the Purchase Order acceptance process.
  • Perform cursory review of Purchase Orders for accuracy and alignment with proposals.
  • Ensure that all comments are tracked and dispositioned, prior to confirming the transition to project initiation.
  • Conducts compliance checks/third party reviews for Bid Team, as required.
  • Works to create and improve best practices that ensure the RFP process is successful and efficient.
  • Recommends, manages, and implements improvements of proposal tools and resources.
  • Supports the Manager, Bids & Strategy with presentations to Senior Management to obtain Necessary approvals in compliance with the Levels of Authority
  • Supports Manager, Bids & Strategy with the coordination and submission of large proposals.
  • Supports the Manager, Bids & Strategy and Account Managers with capture strategy development for strategic proposals.
  • Innovation is an asset with proactive mindset to aid in improving processes, works with Bid Team on quality initiatives, as and when required.
  • A team player with strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to influence without power.
  • Ability to manage several bids, marketing, and reporting work activities concurrently under deadline pressure.
  • Excellent English composition skills to write effective proposals.
  • Advanced user in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational skills, work planning skills, and the ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Strong oral and written skills to interact with customers and internal staff.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of nuclear projects and engineering/technical terminology is an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities are required to tackle a wide range of unique problems.
  • Must have a solid understanding of engineering consultancy pricing models and its principles/requirements relating to treatment of risks, margins and cashflows.

About You

  • Combination of post-secondary education with relevant work experience, with a minimum of
  • 8 years of specific proposal management experience
  • APMP membership and or certification is preferred
  • Master's degree in business administration, management, engineering management, project management is preferred.
  • PMP certification is preferred
