Overview

As a member of Municipal Infrastructure team in the Engineering, Design and Project Management Division for Central Canada, you will be working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. As a Civil Design Lead, you will be leading and managing delivery of civil & drainage designs from conception to detailed design, and construction stages. The Civil Design Lead for the Rail & Transportation projects is responsible for overseeing all civil engineering aspects of the project, ensuring that design deliverables meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and functionality. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership, and project management skills to successfully deliver the civil design components within the specified timeframe and budget. The Civil Design Lead will work closely with other discipline leads, clients, and stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution and client satisfaction.

Our Municipal & Transportation Infrastructure team is looking for a Civil Design Lead to join our growing team in Toronto.

Your role

  • Lead the Civil design in preparation of Rail guideway and roadway civil design drawings, including profiles, cross-sections, earthworks, grading, drainage, and underground services.

  • Lead and manage the civil design project team, ensuring effective collaboration and communication.

  • Attend and represent the civil design team in project meetings, workshops, and presentations. Serve as the primary point of contact for civil design matters with clients, contractors, and stakeholders.

  • Manage design changes and ensure proper documentation and communication with the project team.

  • Oversee the preparation of reports, calculations, technical memos, and meeting minutes. Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.

  • Implement and maintain quality control procedures for civil design deliverables.

  • Manage the civil design budget, monitor team performance and workload, adjusting as necessary to meet project demands.

About you

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering. Registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with PEO.

  • Experience: 10+ years in civil engineering with strong focus on transportation projects (rail systems, roadways, highways) and proven success managing large‑scale infrastructure design from concept to completion.

  • Technical Expertise: Advanced skills in rail transit guideway and roadway design (profiles, grading, drainage, earthworks, erosion control, underground services) with strong knowledge of Ontario design standards and regulatory agencies.

  • Leadership & Project Management: Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary design teams, manage schedules, budgets, resources, and represent the civil team in meetings and presentations; project management experience is an asset.

  • Tools & Other Requirements: Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, InRoads/OpenRoads, and MS Project; strong understanding of health and safety; valid driver's license required.
