Specialist Reactor Physicist

Kincardine, Ontario, Canada

Your role

  • Perform and/or supervise the following calculations: Finite-reactor-core calculations, Kinetics calculations, Transport calculations, Advanced-fuel-cycle calculations, Monte Carlo calculations.

  • Prepare inputs, run reactor physics computer codes.

  • Develop, adapt and modify FORTRAN computer codes as required for specific applications (e.g., to implement new methods or perform new types of calculations for both diffusion and transport calculations).

  • Develop codes and methodologies and perform reactor physics analyses to support design and commercial activities.

  • Document analyses in technical notes and reports, and present results at meetings.

  • Interface with other groups/projects as required.

  • Review technical documents.

  • Supervise, train and prepare training material for junior staff.

  • Estimate, monitor schedules and assign work to meet completion dates.

  • Interface with clients and projects to assess reactor physics related issues confronting their projects/stations and advising on potential solutions.

  • Prepare and/or review work proposals for internal and external clients.

  • Perform varied work assignments effectively and respond quickly to changing project needs.

  • Establish required resources for client work.

  • Propose/develop methodologies and approaches to be used in reactor physics tasks.

  • Develop analysis basis plans.

  • Lead work and liaise with a multidisciplinary analysis team including project management.

About you

  • Master'S or Ph.D. degree or equivalent in Nuclear Engineering, or Science, from a university of recognized standing

  • 15+ years of relevant experience or 10 years of experience with an advanced degree.

  • Extensive experience with reactor physics codes WIMS, DRAGON, RFSP and MCNP. Experience with DONJON and KENO computer codes.

  • Experience with nuclear data library creation

  • Experience with few energy group constants

  • Knowledge of light water reactors, and small modular reactors is desirable

  • Must be conversant with computer environments.

  • Proficiency in both Linux and WINDOWS environments.

  • Ability to program especially in python, MATLAB, C++, or Fortran and familiarity with the Linux and Windows operating system.

We are currently looking for a Specialist Reactor Physicist to be part of our team in the Fuel and Physics department supporting the design of new nuclear power plants and the operation, refurbishment, or waste management and decommissioning of existing CANDU nuclear power plants.
