Our commitment to Reducing Inequality

On March 11, 2023, a team of dedicated volunteers from GTC embarked on a journey to two government schools located in the rural areas of Karnataka. The mission was to install computer labs as part of our highly successful program, the Digital Learning Enabling Programme (DLEP).

This initiative aligns with our commitment to the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 10 - Reduced Inequality, with the goal of providing access to digital education and resources to students living in remote areas where these facilities are scarce. Witnessing the transformational impact of our efforts first-hand was truly heartening and served as a powerful reminder of the importance of our mission to make a positive impact on society.

How AtkinsRéalis employees are making a difference

Situated in the Ramanagara district of Karnataka, the two schools visited exemplify a region known for its limited resources and educational opportunities, despite its natural beauty. This is where the DLEP program plays a vital role by bridging the digital divide and granting access to modern technology and learning materials.

The company was delighted to have volunteers from the Global Technology Centre (GTC) join this event, as it encourages and empowers its employees to actively participate in making a positive difference in the world.

We provide all employees additional support to carry out voluntary work for Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) and are pleased to announce that our teams in India will have two volunteer days of paid leave every year to consciously contribute back to society.

Inspiring the next generation of engineers

The first school visited was the Government High School in Chikkakalbalu, where a dedicated computer lab has been established with 16 computers. Upon arrival, the team was warmly greeted by a group of enthusiastic students eager to showcase their newly acquired knowledge.

The computer lab was well-maintained and equipped with up-to-date software, hardware, and high-speed internet connectivity. The students demonstrated how they utilized computers for various learning activities, such as typing, programming, and conducting internet research. The dedication and passion displayed by the school staff in maximizing the lab's potential were truly impressive.

The team then visited the Government High School in Chikkamuduvadi, where another computer lab with 16 computers has been set up. The atmosphere mirrored that of the previous school, with students eagerly demonstrating their skills and exhibiting a strong enthusiasm for learning. The progress they had made in just a few months since the lab's establishment was truly commendable.

The impact of education and technology

Immersing ourselves in these visits was a humbling journey that emphasized the profound influence education and technology can have on individuals' lives. AtkinsRéalis is incredibly proud to have played a role in empowering more than 400 rural students in Karnataka with access to digital resources and equipping them with essential skills for success in the modern world.

This accomplishment fuels our unwavering dedication to bridging the digital divide and extending educational opportunities to students in remote areas throughout the country. Together, we will continue to make a lasting impact and shape a brighter future for all.

We are hoping that the coming year will encourage more people to take up such eye-opening opportunities and advance the cause of giving back to our communities
