Overview

The BIM/GIS Engineer will support the implementation and management of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) processes throughout the construction supervision phase of major development projects. The role is responsible for maintaining accurate digital models and geospatial data, supporting multidisciplinary coordination, monitoring information management requirements, and ensuring compliance with project BIM and GIS standards.

Your role

BIM Coordination and Management

  • Review architectural, structural, MEP, and infrastructure BIM models for completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Assist in multidisciplinary model coordination and identify clashes, inconsistencies, and constructability issues.
  • Support maintenance and updating of federated models throughout the construction lifecycle.
  • Verify incorporation of approved design changes and field modifications into BIM models.
  • Participate in BIM coordination meetings and contribute to the resolution of technical issues.

GIS Data Management

  • Maintain GIS databases containing project geospatial information, utility records, and site data.
  • Process, update, and validate geospatial information obtained from surveys, site investigations, and project stakeholders.
  • Develop maps, spatial analyses, and GIS reports to support construction monitoring and decision-making.
  • Ensure GIS datasets comply with project standards and information management requirements.
  • Support integration of GIS information with BIM models and project digital platforms.

Digital Information Management

  • Assist in managing project information within the Common Data Environment (CDE).
  • Monitor digital document workflows and ensure timely submission of BIM and GIS deliverables.
  • Maintain project data structures, naming conventions, and digital records in accordance with project standards.
  • Support coordination of information exchange between consultants, contractors, and supervision teams.
  • Ensure project digital information remains accurate, accessible, and properly controlled.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Verify BIM and GIS deliverables comply with project specifications, contractual requirements, and approved standards.
  • Conduct regular checks on model quality, data integrity, and information accuracy.
  • Assist in BIM and GIS audits to ensure compliance with project procedures and client requirements.
  • Monitor closure of issues identified during model reviews and coordination sessions.
  • Support implementation of corrective actions related to non-compliant digital deliverables.

Site Support and Construction Coordination

  • Support site supervision teams by providing BIM and GIS information required for construction monitoring.
  • Assist in verifying construction progress against digital models and project data.
  • Coordinate with engineers and inspectors to capture and update site changes in BIM and GIS platforms.
  • Support digital visualization, progress tracking, and reporting activities throughout project execution.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate as-built information for project closeout and handover.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Coordinate with Client representatives, consultants, contractors, surveyors, and project teams on BIM and GIS matters.
  • Participate in technical coordination meetings and provide updates on digital delivery activities.
  • Support resolution of coordination issues affecting project information management and model quality.
  • Assist project disciplines in utilizing BIM and GIS tools for improved collaboration and project delivery.
  • Provide technical guidance to project personnel regarding digital engineering requirements.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports on BIM coordination, GIS activities, and digital compliance performance.
  • Maintain records of model reviews, clash detection reports, GIS updates, and coordination actions.
  • Review contractor BIM and GIS submissions and verify compliance with project requirements.
  • Track digital engineering performance indicators and communicate findings to project management.
  • Ensure proper archiving and maintenance of project digital records and documentation.

About you

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Geomatics, GIS, Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Professional certification in BIM, GIS, or Digital Engineering is preferred.
  • Certification in Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, ArcGIS, or equivalent software is highly desirable.
  • Training in BIM coordination, GIS applications, and information management systems is advantageous.
  • Membership in a recognized professional engineering, BIM, or GIS organization is preferred.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 7-10 years of professional experience in BIM, GIS, digital engineering, or information management.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience on large construction, engineering consultancy, or site supervision consultancy projects.
  • Proven experience on large-scale buildings, convention centers, hotels, resorts, and mixed-use developments.
  • Strong experience in BIM coordination, model review, clash detection, and GIS data management.
  • Previous GCC experience, preferably within Saudi Arabia, is highly desirable.

Technical Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of BIM processes, information management principles, and GIS applications.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, BIM 360, Autodesk Construction Cloud, ArcGIS, and related software.
  • Experience in clash detection, model federation, digital coordination, and construction information management.
  • Understanding of GIS databases, spatial analysis, geospatial mapping, and survey integration techniques.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and digital collaboration platforms.
