Lab Technician/Technologist

Overview

AtkinsRéalis is looking for an Intermediate Laboratory Technician/Technologist to join our Materials Engineering specialty laboratory team in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. This role reports to the Lab Operations Manager and supports construction materials, geotechnical, and Geomechanical testing programs through hands-on laboratory work, quality-focused testing, accurate documentation, and safe operation of specialized equipment.

Location – Saskatoon, SK.

Your role

  • Perform routine and specialty laboratory testing on soils, aggregates, concrete, rock, tailings, and related materials; including triaxial, direct shear, consolidation, permeability, classification, and compaction testing, in accordance with applicable standards, competency requirements, and project needs.
  • Receive, log, prepare, condition, preserve, and dispose of samples in accordance with project requirements, laboratory procedures, and quality controls.
  • Accurately record observations, measurements, calculations, deviations, and results using laboratory forms, spreadsheets, data acquisition systems, and reporting tools.
  • Identify and promptly communicate non-conforming samples, questionable data, equipment issues, procedural deviations, and quality concerns.
  • Coordinate with laboratory staff, engineers, project managers, and coordinators to prioritize workloads, meet deadlines, and maintain an organized, audit-ready laboratory.
  • Support equipment verification, calibration checks, routine maintenance, troubleshooting, cleaning, housekeeping, consumable tracking, and document control.
  • Follow all health, safety, environmental, radiation safety, and quality management requirements, including safe material handling and use of required personal protective equipment.

About you



  • Typically, three or more years of relevant laboratory, construction materials, geotechnical, or geomechanical testing experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and hands-on technical experience.
  • Familiarity with applicable laboratory testing standards and procedures, including ASTM, CSA, AASHTO, provincial Ministry of Highways methods, and internal quality management system requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word, with the ability and willingness to learn laboratory data acquisition software, scheduling tools, and internal reporting systems.
  • Ability to follow written procedures, recognize unusual results or conditions, ask appropriate technical questions, escalate concerns before data quality is affected, and maintain accurate records in a fast-paced laboratory.
  • Strong organization, time management, communication, teamwork, and independent work skills, with a commitment to health and safety, quality, continuous improvement, housekeeping, and professional conduct; ability to support occasional field, warehouse, or sample receiving activities is an asset.
