Senior Feeder Piping Analyst/Engineer

Overview

Candu Energy Inc. (AtkinsRéalis company) is currently looking for experienced Senior Feeder Piping Analyst/Engineer to join our engineering team. The work is in support of Life Extension Projects for the on-going and anticipated Retube of CANDU reactors (Wolsong Units 2, 3 & 4 Retube, Cernavoda-1 Retube, Qinshan Units 1 & 2 and possibly others) and requires technical expertise in the analysis of feeder piping, feeder supports, and feeder in-line components.

This role is based out of the Candu Energy Inc. home office in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. This is a permanent full-time position.

Your role

  • Perform engineering work following Candu Energy's QA programs, and applicable codes, standards, and regulation requirements.
  • Demonstrate understanding technical documents such as engineering drawings and bill of materials, calculations, design specifications, design/analysis reports, design requirements, design manuals, technical specifications (for procurement, fabrication, and site installation), data sheets, system classification lists, code classifications, commissioning specifications, etc.
  • Prepare technical documents such as design/analysis reports, design requirements, design descriptions, design decision documents, design specifications, fabrication technical specifications, installation/removal specifications, etc.
  • Perform thermal, fatigue, seismic, linear, and non-linear analyses in accordance with ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, Section III, Div.1 code requirements.
  • Prepare engineering computations and analyses using applicable software (e.g., PipeStress, AutoPipe, MATLAB, MathCAD, ANSYS Mechanical (APDL preferred or Workbench), and LS-DYNA).
  • Support the project team by helping them with the design and analysis of complex piping and support arrangements using finite element analysis software (i.e. ANSYS Mechanical and/or LS-DYNA).
  • Communicate with the clients and suppliers to provide technical assistance and resolution of any technical queries that may arise.
  • Prepare TSSA registration packages for pressure boundary modifications.
  • Prepare requisitions or Engineering Quotation Requests (EQR) for equipment and materials to support procurement.
  • Review supplier technical documents.
  • Provide technical guidance and instruction to Designers/Drafters and more junior staff as required.
  • Perform site visits to client and supplier shops as required.
  • Perform field walk-downs during different design phases as required.
  • Support field construction and execution activities, such as field changes, design revisions, commissioning, AFS, closeout, etc.
  • May be requested by Engineering Manager to lead technical packages with a small or large team of Designers and Stress Analysts.
  • Provide prompt response and engineering resolutions on any critical engineering related matters.
  • Complete the assigned scopes or tasks within given budget and schedule, and in good quality.

About you

  • Must have an Engineering Degree in Mechanical from an accredited university or equivalent degree as recognized by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • Must be a Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the Province of Ontario or be eligible to be registered as a P.Eng. in the Province of Ontario in near future.
  • Qualified or eligible to be qualified as ASME Appendix XXIII is considered an asset.
  • Must have 8-10 years of related work experience in mechanical engineering within a heavy industrial environment such as nuclear, mining, oil & gas, power, etc. (Nuclear industry experience is preferred).
  • Must have experience in stress analysis of piping, pipe supports and other pressure boundary components, for dead weight, thermal, fatigue and seismic conditions.
  • Design engineering experience in nuclear Class 1/2/3 piping systems for Nuclear Power Plants is preferred.
  • Must have experience in stress analysis using ANSYS Mechanical (APDL or Workbench) and/or LS-DYNA.
  • Site experience in construction, or commissioning of plant mechanical systems for nuclear or other heavy industries would be considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of CSA N285.0, CSA B51, CSA N289 and ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), Section III codes and any other applicable standards or regulatory guides related to power plant components, pressure boundary equipment, and/or reactor systems is preferred.
  • Must have basic knowledge of mechanical and nuclear piping systems or equipment.
  • Knowledge of CANDU nuclear systems would be considered an asset.
  • Must have excellent technical and practical skills to resolve engineering issues or technical problems.
  • Must have excellent communication and technical writing skills.
  • Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Must be willing to become a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW), although this will not be a regular requirement as part of the position.
