Overview
Candu Energy Inc. is looking to hire a Technical Lead Engineer (Industrial Valves & Actuators). This position requires qualified and experienced individuals who are self-starters possessing well-established and demonstrated supervisory skills, and capable of working independently and leading a team of intermediate and junior industrial valve engineers. The individuals will work in a fast-paced team environment performing and leading engineering design services for Nuclear Power Plants within a matrix organization.
Your role
- Technically supervise in a lead role to review and correct the engineering work including development and preparations of technical reports, industrial valves technical specifications, component specification sheets (data sheets), tender drawings, technical tender packages, vendor interface, review and technical evaluation of bids, purchase recommendations and all related technical activities and assigned duties for a diverse range of nuclear and non-nuclear valves and actuators.
- Effectively interact with peers and inter-discipline leads, attend all project meetings as required and project his point of view in a technically sound, effective and a logically correct manner.
- Perform technical review of process flow sheets, detail drawings, equipment arrangement/layouts as well as sizing and/or selection of diverse ranges and type of specialty valves, actuators and components related to nuclear steam plant and balance of plant, with specific focus on ensuring the maintenance-based design features and ease of plant operation and valves and actuators maintenance requirements are fully met.
- Interface with peers and other related disciplines and provide valves design related input for the preparation of deliverables including technical specifications, component specification sheets, plant layout, inspection and test procedures, commissioning plans and registration design submissions for components and mechanical systems.
- Preparing, monitoring and reporting project schedules, engineering deliverables, resource planning and maintaining key performance parameters including cost performance index and schedule performance index.
- Supporting manufacturing, assembly, testing and commissioning tasks at site.
- Review design reports, analysis reports, calculations, documents and drawings in support of design verification.
- Conduct technical meetings with peers, clients and suppliers, write and follow up action plans and prepare detailed technical reports.
- Conduct site visits at nuclear generating stations, construction sites and factories for inspection and testing of equipment.
- Provide engineering support to quality surveillance, manufacturing, assembly and testing with non-conformances.
- Review and approve supplier's capability to fabricate the required component within the applicable requirements with focus on valves maintenance-based design.
- Work in accordance with applicable codes, standards, regulations, and client and company procedures.

About you
- Engineering degree from an accredited University in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering.
- Licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
- A proven experience of 15-20 years in a senior engineer role including a minimum of 5 years of proven technical lead role experience in the industrial valves and actuators design disciplines of EPC companies or reputed power sector OEMs, preferably in the Candu nuclear power plants, thermal power plants, oil refineries, petrochemical or any other process plants excluding metal fabrication and automotive assembly, covering major system and critical valves, engineering knowledge of diverse range of nuclear and non-nuclear valves and actuators.
- Solid understanding of process systems, equipment valve design, operation and maintenance procedures, materials, material selection and fundamentals of machine component design. Solid understanding and experience in equipment sizing calculations, selection, and troubleshooting issues.
- A strong and well recognized collaborator/team-player with an overall understanding and proven experience of inter-discipline coordination and interface with Clients, Process System, Electrical / I&C, Civil/Structural, Safety & Reliability, and Piping Engineers.
- Comprehensive understating and working knowledge of CSA-N285.0, CSA N299.1~4, ISO 9001, ASME Section II, ASME Section III, ASME Section V, ASME Section IX, ASME Section XI, B16.34, B16.10, B16.25, QME-1, API-598, API-609, MSS-SP-61 and other related Canadian/US and International codes and standards.
- Working knowledge and understanding of all applicable software.
- Must have strong technical knowledge and inter-personal skills with proven ability to guide a team of junior and intermediate engineers, provide mentoring and coaching and impart training and knowledge transfer.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with focus on technical report writing.
