Ottawa, Ontario, Canada | Woodbridge, Ontario, Canada | Pickering, Ontario, Canada

Overview

We are currently seeking a dynamic, growth‑focused Geotechnical Engineer (P.Eng.) to join our Geotechnical Practice in Ontario. This role is based out of Ottawa, ON or Vaughan, ON, and we will also consider qualified candidates located elsewhere in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Our current workload includes a portfolio of diverse projects across a wide spectrum of sectors, principally rail infrastructure, highways, energy, water & environment, and urban development. This is a great opportunity to work on exciting projects where you can make your mark and move your career forward, with a hybrid work environment, strong growth potential, and a good work‑life balance.

Your role

  • Lead geotechnical design (or lead key components) for transportation and energy projects (e.g., foundations, retaining structures, excavations, slopes/embankments, tunnels), ensuring rigorous analysis, quality, and constructability.
  • Perform and support advanced analyses and numerical modelling (soil/rock) to optimize designs and manage geotechnical risk on complex assignments.
  • Manage project delivery for assigned scopes, planning and coordinating tasks, schedule, budget, risk, and change, while working closely with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Plan and oversee geotechnical site investigations (field and lab), interpret subsurface conditions, and translate findings into defensible design parameters and practical recommendations.
  • Prepare high‑quality technical deliverables (reports, memos, calculations, specifications) and contribute to QA/QC and peer reviews to maintain strong technical standards.
  • Support proposals and client engagement by contributing to scope/approach, resourcing and risk considerations, and presenting technical solutions to clients and stakeholders as needed.
  • Mentor junior staff through day‑to‑day technical coaching, knowledge sharing, and supportive guidance within the geotechnical team.

About you

  • Graduate degree (M.Sc. or higher) in Geotechnical Engineering (civil engineering with a geotechnical focus).
  • P.Eng. (Ontario) with 10–15 years of progressive geotechnical engineering experience in consulting, including delivering projects from planning through design and construction support.
  • Proven geotechnical design experience across major infrastructure elements, with proficiency in advanced analytical and numerical modelling.
  • Strong delivery and project management capability, including preparation of competitive proposals, work planning and resourcing, budget and cost control, change management/variations, risk management, and effective client commercial engagement through project execution.
  • Demonstrated application of relevant Canadian/Ontario standards and guidelines; Ontario rail/highway/transportation experience (e.g., MTO) is a strong asset.
