Overview

The Digital Engineering function within the Global Technology Centre (GTC) supports the digital transformation of infrastructure delivery across the highways, rail, utilities, water, energy, and aviation sectors.

The team combines information management, digital delivery, computational design, automation, data analytics, and emerging technologies to improve how infrastructure assets are planned, designed, constructed, and operated throughout their lifecycle.

As a Senior Digital Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across Digital Engineering projects and programmes, supporting the successful delivery of complex infrastructure projects through the application of information management, digital delivery, automation, data analytics, and emerging technologies.

You will act as a trusted technical advisor to project teams, supporting the development of Digital Engineering strategies, implementation of best practices, and continuous improvement of digital delivery processes. The role requires a strong combination of technical expertise, leadership capability, innovation, and stakeholder engagement.

Your role

Information Management

  • Lead the implementation of project information management processes and workflows in accordance with organisational and client requirements
  • Support the development of project Information Delivery Plans (IDPs), information standards, and information management strategies
  • Provide technical guidance on ISO 19650 implementation and information governance practices
  • Undertake information quality assurance reviews, audits, and compliance assessments
  • Support project teams in the delivery of asset information and digital handover requirements
  • Assist in the development and improvement of information management standards, procedures, and best practices

Digital Delivery

  • Lead Digital Engineering activities across major project workstreams and multidisciplinary teams
  • Develop and implement project digital delivery strategies and execution plans
  • Oversee model coordination, design integration, clash management, and digital review processes
  • Support project mobilisation activities and establish Digital Engineering delivery requirements
  • Provide technical leadership in resolving complex digital delivery and coordination challenges
  • Promote consistency, efficiency, and quality across project delivery activities

Computational Design & Automation

  • Lead the development and implementation of computational design workflows and automation solutions
  • Establish best-practice approaches for visual programming and workflow automation
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering delivery through automation and digital innovation
  • Support engineering teams in translating technical challenges into scalable digital solutions
  • Oversee development and maintenance of reusable automation tools, templates, and workflows
  • Evaluate emerging AI-enabled workflows and support their responsible adoption

Data & Analytics

  • Lead development of project reporting frameworks, dashboards, and data visualisation solutions
  • Support teams in leveraging BIM, GIS, and project information datasets
  • Develop data-driven approaches to monitor project performance and quality
  • Support integration of information from multiple platforms
  • Promote data quality, consistency, and effective reporting practices
  • Contribute to development of analytical capabilities

Emerging Technologies

  • Evaluate and support implementation of emerging technologies for infrastructure delivery
  • Lead or contribute to initiatives involving Digital Twins, GIS, LiDAR, drones, and AI solutions
  • Support proof-of-concept studies and pilot programmes
  • Identify innovation opportunities with measurable business benefits
  • Promote awareness and adoption of new technologies

Leadership, Capability Development & Collaboration

  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers
  • Support capability development through coaching and knowledge sharing
  • Contribute to recruitment and technical assessments
  • Support development of standards, procedures, and best practices
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders and project teams
  • Promote innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement

About you

Essential

  • 8–12 years of experience in infrastructure, engineering, construction, or built environment sectors
  • Strong experience in Digital Engineering, BIM, information management, or digital delivery
  • Solid understanding of ISO 19650 workflows and digital delivery methodologies
  • Experience leading Digital Engineering across multidisciplinary environments
  • Experience in computational design, automation, or digital transformation initiatives
  • Exposure to sectors like highways, rail, utilities, water, energy, or aviation
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills

Desirable

  • Experience leading Digital Engineering strategies on major programmes
  • Experience in organisational capability development
  • Exposure to GIS, Digital Twin, reality capture, or advanced analytics
  • Participation in innovation and technology adoption initiatives
  • Client-facing Digital Engineering experience
  • Relevant professional certifications or memberships

Essential

  • Autodesk tools: Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks OR Bentley OpenRoads / OpenBuildings
  • Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), BIM 360, or Bentley ProjectWise
  • Microsoft Excel and Power BI
  • Computational tools: Dynamo, Grasshopper, Generative Components, FME
  • Model federation, coordination, and review technologies

Desirable

  • GIS: ArcGIS, QGIS, InfraWorks
  • Model coordination tools: Revizto, iTwin
  • Digital twin / construction sequencing: Synchro
  • Automation tools: Power Automate, Power Apps, Python
  • Asset information and enterprise data platforms

Minimum

Bachelor's Degree in:
