Taking ownership, creating impact: Sowmya's career journey

Over the past five years, Sowmya's career has been defined by continuous learning, taking ownership, and working alongside talented people from around the world. Today, as an Architect, she reflects on a journey that has challenged her to grow both technically and personally.

Growing through opportunity

One of Sowmya's proudest career moments came during the concept stage of The Mukaab, where, as a Graduate Architect, she was entrusted with supporting collaboration between teams across the Middle East, Cairo, and the Global Technology Centre. Her role involved translating evolving design intent from Rhino into Revit, managing continuous design updates, and helping maintain alignment across multiple teams under demanding timelines. With frequent design changes and tight deadlines, she developed a structured approach to coordination and prioritisation that helped the team deliver quality outcomes efficiently. For Sowmya, the experience reinforced an important lesson: meaningful impact is not determined by seniority. It comes from being proactive, dependable, and willing to take ownership when opportunities arise.

The power of collaboration

Throughout her career, Sowmya has contributed to projects including The Mukaab, Dubai Metro, Al Wajh Airport, API Towers, Polo Club, and The Sphere Abu Dhabi. These experiences have connected her with colleagues across India, Cairo, the UK, and the Middle East. Working with diverse teams taught her that successful collaboration goes beyond processes and deadlines. Trust, open communication, and a shared commitment to project success are what truly make a difference. Learning from people with different backgrounds and expertise has expanded her perspective and strengthened her ability to deliver in complex project environments.

A culture built around people

Ask Sowmya what stands out most about her experience and her answer is immediate: the people.

She describes a culture where colleagues are approachable, supportive, and generous with their knowledge. Regardless of role or experience level, everyone is encouraged to contribute, learn, and
grow. Whether facing project challenges or navigating new responsibilities, there is always someone willing to help. This supportive environment has played a significant role in her professional development and continues to inspire her every day.

Learning and thriving together

Beyond technical expertise in BIM, Revit, design development, and coordination, Sowmya has embraced new technologies, AI‑enabled tools, and evolving digital workflows to keep learning and growing.
Over time, her mindset has shifted from focusing on individual tasks to understanding the bigger picture of project delivery, quality, and collaboration. Outside project work, she has built meaningful connections through volunteering initiatives, employee communities, mentoring, and sports. One of her most memorable experiences was captaining the Women's Throwball team to a runners‑up finish in 2026, an experience that reinforced the importance of teamwork, trust, and collective success.
Today, Sowmya is passionate about supporting new joiners and helping others grow, just as others helped her throughout her journey. Sowmya's story is a reminder that when people are empowered to learn, collaborate, and support one another, they can build not only exceptional projects, but exceptional careers.
