AtkinsRéalis is growing rapidly in Australia with new project wins offering exciting opportunities to learn and develop. Our regional business servicing the Australia & New Zealand markets is divided into three sectors: Consulting & Advisory, Program & Project management and Design & Engineering. We're looking to grow our teams in each area.

We have plans to expand our existing team of 120 talented individuals across the East Coast of Australia and are in search for experienced, agile engineers to join us in this exciting growth phase.

Role Summary

AtkinsRéalis’ Engineering Design business provides multidisciplinary engineering services and integrated solutions across a wide range of projects and markets.

We are on the hunt for a Principal Engineer, with expertise in Transmission Lines Design (up to 500kV). The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in various aspects of overhead transmission line design including preliminary route alignment, PLS CADD modelling, tower micro spotting, foundation design, stringing chart preparation and generation of bill of materials. Familiarity with Australian utility standards and experience on related projects will be well regarded.

 Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Establishing and leading a team of transmission line designers and supporting our multi-disciplinary design and project management teams.
  • Taking ownership of preparing and delivering a full scope of work for transmission and distribution overhead lines, new build, TNSP Panel works, in accordance with Australian Design Standards
  • Identify line corridors, easements and preliminary route alignment
  • Develop PLS CADD models for transmission lines
  • Perform micro-spotting of towers and determine appropriate foundation and tower types
  • Generating bill of materials for towers, conductors, insulator and fittings
  • Preparation of stringing charts/sag tension calculations
  • Developing and maintaining client relationships to support project delivery.
  • Collaborating closely with internal and external stake holders to define project goals, establish budgets and develop project schedules
  • Actively participating in design reviews, risk assessments and quality control processes to ensure design excellence.
  • Keeping on top of emerging technologies and industry trends in high voltage primary systems to recommend innovative solutions.

Desired Skills, Experience and Capabilities

  • Masters/Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • CPEng and/or RPEQ
  • Proven experience in the design of transmission lines up to 500 kV.
  • Proficiency in use of overhead line design tools and software.
  • Excellent interpersonal and technical skills with the ability to develop and lead design teams and develop strong client relationships
  • Experience working in digital engineering environments and delivering to local technical standards and guidelines
  • Commercially minded, can understand the business needs of both AtkinsRéalis and our clients
