Role Summary

We are looking to bring on a Senior or Principal Consultant to support our growing workload in the Queensland region within our Transport Advisory team.

Typically, this role will involve working with clients within the rail and transport sectors, ranging from government transport agencies, private operators to engineering and design partners. Our varied portfolio of work includes rail network strategy development, public transport project business case support, performance modelling and operational assessment. With ongoing remits on major projects including Cross River Rail, Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail and Auckland Light Rail – and with support provided by rail operations capability throughout SNC-Lavalin Atkins globally - there has never been a better time to join our expanding Transport Advisory team.

This is a pivotal role within the Transport Advisory team, contributing to delivery of existing rail operations and strategic projects as well as the development of new work. The focus will be the ability to represent SNC-Lavalin with local clients, both contributing technical input directly but also managing technical teams – including global SMEs – to ensure our engagements are delivered successfully.
 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provision of advisory services across light rail, metro, passenger, freight rail or Bus Rapid Transit including:

    • Development of Concepts of Operations, Concepts of maintenance, network operating plans or concept timetables

    • Operational and infrastructure planning;

    • Service plan and timetable development and optioneering;

    • Corridor and network capacity analysis;

    • Network simulation;

    • Assessment of network performance, infrastructure and rolling stock options

    • Development of fleet, maintenance and stabling plans, and/or traincrew rostering

    • Operational readiness activities and associated business changes

    • OPEX model development

  • Contributing to delivery of projects across the whole lifecycle – from strategic demand and operations planning during feasibility studies or business case phase, through development of operational plans and requirements during procurement, and onto delivery and operational readiness.

  • Opportunities to support the growth of the business with project management, people management and business development opportunities as desired

Desired Skills, Experience and Capabilities:

  • Degree qualified in engineering, transport planning or other relevant disciplines.

  • Ability to communicate complex ideas to non-specialists, including writing, drawing and presentation skills

  • Ability to manage time and workloads to deliver technical outputs across multiple projects, often to tight timescales

  • Quantitative and analytically-driven rail performance appraisal and improvement; proficiency  with – or interest in and ability to develop competence in – rail operations simulation tools such as RailSys (TM) by RMCon and/or OpenTrack (TM)  would be desirable
