Operations Technician Energy

Overview

We are seeking an Operations Technician Energy to join our team in Richland, WA.

Your role

  • Performs a range of direct push drilling equipment operations associated with Atkins direct push drilling and characterization contracts with Washington River Protection Services (H2C), Central Plateau Construction Company (CPCCo), and other potential government contractors.

  • Ensures compliance with Atkins policies and procedures and with local, state and federal regulations.

  • Performs operations work as part of a team of skilled workers (e.g., health physics technicians, nuclear chemical operators, industrial hygienists, safety engineers, geologists, etc.).

  • These tasks are necessary to maintain a healthy and productive workforce, to ensure smooth company operations and to ensure customer requirements are met.

  • Operates a variety of equipment: (1) hand and power tools; (2) small, fixed-facility (light) equipment; (3) medium weight equipment; (4) heavy equipment and (5) direct push drill rigs.

  • Cleans equipment, machinery and work areas. Uses equipment to conduct direct push subsurface investigations including soil sample collections and geophysical logging thru direct push boreholes.

  • Monitors and operates equipment using normal, abnormal and emergency operating procedures. Operates equipment within the bounds of the Documented Safety Analysis (DSA) as applicable.

  • Operates equipment under the direction of a Test Engineer, the Test Operations manager, a Shift Operations Manager or a field supervisor in support of testing and drilling operations as applicable, according to location and work assignment.

  • Works under the direction of the Operations Manager as applicable, according to location and work assignment.

  • Complies with all local, state and federal health and safety regulations and site health and safety requirements.

  • Complies with all requirements for wearing personal protective equipment while performing job duties.

  • Participates in procedure development and revision, job hazard analysis and safety walkdowns as applicable.

  • Operates power-driven equipment of medium weight and horsepower such as trucks, backhoes, drill rigs, and hoists/forklifts.

  • Reports the need for major mechanical adjustments and repairs.

  • Uses machines and equipment to remove, package, store, treat and transport loads of waste materials.

  • Operates, or supports, direct push drilling and associated equipment, including forklifts, pumps, generators.

  • Performs maintenance on direct push drilling rigs and associated equipment.

  • Helps secure waste containers. Determines when containers are secure and meet Department of Transportation regulations.

  • Conducts field drilling operations under direction of a client Field Work Supervisor or Project Manager.

  • Participates in planning meetings and work site walkdowns as applicable.

  • Works directly with client Field Work Supervisors and field staff.

  • Performs work within hazardous waste and radiologically controlled areas on the Hanford Site (including the Hanford Tank Farms).

  • Performs work wearing required and appropriate personal protective equipment including anti contamination clothing and respiratory protection.

  • Performs majority of work outdoors.

  • Prepares Daily Activity reports documenting work performed.

  • Operates Geophysical Logging, borehole camera and borehole gyroscope equipment.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

About you

  • Requires a High School diploma or equivalent.

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working with heavy equipment.

  • Washington State Well Drillers License for Resource Protection Well Construction.

  • A minimum of 1 years' experience as a licensed driller conducting direct push drilling using similar drilling equipment.

  • A 1-year certificate from a college or technical school preferred.

  • 40 Hour Hazardous Waste Worker training preferred.

  • Experience working in a radiological environment.

  • Experience working on government contracts.

  • Experience working with and maintaining equipment such as pumps, generators, etc.

  • Experience operating heavy equipment such as backhoes, forklifts, drilling rigs.

  • Experience with direct push drilling technology.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong time management and interpersonal skills.

  • Detailed knowledge of operations processes, facilities, services, practices, procedures and terminology.

  • Detailed knowledge of operations machinery, equipment, materials and tools.

  • Detailed knowledge of occupational hazards and the corresponding safety precautions necessary for the safe performance of tasks.

  • General knowledge of local, state and federal health and safety regulations [e.g., Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)].

  • General understanding of how to interpret and assess compliance with government requirements.

  • Ability to manage and/or monitor multiple projects and activities occurring simultaneously.

  • Ability to establish and maintain a variety of records, files and operational systems using a computer.

  • Ability to develop and communicate work steps required to maintain and repair existing and planned machinery, equipment and tools.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work and to lift up to 50 lb.

  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions and environments wherein there is exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, chemicals and mechanical and electrical hazards.

  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment including a respirator.

  • Ability to work irregular hours and be on-call at all times.

  • Welding experience desired.

  • Valid driver's license with a clean record required.

  • Evidence of insurability required.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen in order to be considered.

Additional information

Expected compensation range is between $42,000 - $70,000 annually depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
