Senior Communications Specialist

Overview

We are seeking a Senior Communications Specialist to join our Public Outreach team in Orlando, FL to be a part of Florida's most innovative transportation initiatives. This role offers the opportunity to translate cutting-edge, complex concepts into clear, compelling messages for stakeholders, partners, and the public. From strategic storytelling to event coordination, you'll play a key role in elevating high-profile programs that are redefining how Floridians move. Your role

  • Develop and implement integrated communications strategies that support organization and client goals and key initiatives
  • Craft clear and compelling messaging, talking points, and other documents that articulate project objectives; skilled at turning technical material into clear, accessible communications for non-technical audiences
  • Identify proactive storytelling opportunities and develop and manage calendars for campaigns, announcements, social media and digital content
  • Coordinate production of photos graphics, video, and other multimedia assets
  • Ensure brand and message consistency across all communications
  • Create high-quality written content including press releases, media advisories, web copy, social media content, newsletters, digital campaigns, etc.
  • Identify communications objectives and provide strategic recommendations to clients on the most effective methods to address project needs.
  • Manage high-priority, time-sensitive content requiring rapid turnaround and polish.
  • Plan, produce, and execute of a variety of events including conferences, VIP tours, media events, and showcases.
  • Coordinate and participate in government briefings and deliver project presentations to external audiences.
  • Prepare and distribute regular reports summarizing communications activities and progress.
  • Supervise and mentor support staff and junior professionals as assigned, fostering growth and development.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor to support project and organizational needs.

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field from an accredited four‑year college or university.
  • Seven or more years of professional experience in public relations, communications, public outreach, or related disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of public relations principles, event planning, and media relations strategies.
  • Prior agency and event planning/coordination experience highly desired.
  • Proven ability to write, edit, and oversee the development of promotional and informational materials.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with clients, media representatives, employees, managers, citizens, and appointed or elected officials.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to deliver persuasive and engaging public presentations.
  • Ability to actively listen and respond appropriately to stakeholders on a wide range of issues.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency and comfort with standard office software and digital communication tools.

Additional information

Expected compensation range is between $65,800 - $109,600 annually depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
