Key Responsibilities

As our regional Planning, Design & Engineering (PD&E) business grows there is a need to supplement the leadership team to promote a focus on operational management and project delivery across our design commissions.  This will allow the Managing Director – PD&E to focus on transformational initiatives, client relationships, market positioning, brand strengthening, widening of our geographies of operation and service proposition development.

This position will effectively operate as a second in command to the Managing Director, working closely with the existing leadership team.  Through brining this additional managerial leadership role into the team it would allow the regional directors of Building Design and Land Development to continue their focus on delivery of an expanded backlog.  The Operations & Service Delivery Director would then focus on the effective set-up, organisational arrangement, operational set-up and management and overall approach to holistic survey delivery.

The focus of the role will be to work with each department, determine their coordinated input requirement and oversee the development and implementation of new optimal ways of working.  Where possible this is to incorporate a data driven approach to streamline operational inputs into the project delivery and reporting functions, in addition to devising and implementing standard design delivery frameworks to aid multidisciplinary design delivery.

A – Project Delivery Leadership

Bringing together various roles within project delivery, including technical disciplines, practice directors (inclusive of our offshored India team) project management, design management, project controls, central controls, scheduling, commercial management, stakeholder management, digital, quality, win-work and finance to operate as a holistic delivery team for all projects within the design business. The role will lead.

  • Provision of strategic direction and leadership to project teams.

  • Ensure that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget while adhering to quality standards.

  • Oversee project planning, execution, and monitoring to mitigate risks and resolve issues as they arise.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement in project delivery processes.

B – Client Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with our clients.  Through understanding client needs and requirements our delivery approach can be tailored to align.

  • Collaborate closely with clients to ensure project objectives align with their vision and goals,

  • Work with the wider win-work and operations team to ascertain, influence and contribute to our account management approach.

C – Team Development & Management

  • Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of professionals.

  • Provide coaching, training, and guidance to team members to enhance their skills and capabilities.

  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages innovation and creativity.

  • Identify strengths and weaknesses within the team, devise a clear strategy of improvement with the wider functional owners, ensuring continues improvement.

  • Contribute to our talent management process and a leading voice.

  • Ensure we comply with nationalisation targets and contribute to our regional approach.

D – Quality Assurance

  • Establish and enforce a service owned approach to quality to maintain the highest standards of design and construction.

  • Develop and where applicable contribute to regular quality audits and reviews to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.

  • Where instances of poor performance result, lead reviews to identify failure points and implement lessons learnt to mitigate future quality issues.

E – Budget & Financial Management

  • Working with the project management and project controls team take overall ownership and leadership to manage project budgets to ensure profitability and cost-effectiveness.

  • Analyse financial reports and performance metrics to make informed decisions and strategic adjustments.

  • Oversee the implementation of effective change management.

  • Where necessary implement an intervention approach, including commercial and claims administration, though involvement and direction to specialist teams.

F – Reporting & Communication

  • Provide regular updates and reports to the executive leadership team on project status, financial performance, and other key metrics.

  • Oversee the project performance reporting function, ensuring reporting is accurate and robust.

  • Maintain transparent and open communication channels within the organisation.

Key Requirements:

  • Education: A bachelor's or master’s degree in business, engineering, project management, or a related field is typically required. Professional certifications in project management, such as Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), can be beneficial.

  • Experience: 25+ years of experience in a similar domain is essential.

  • Leadership: Excellent leadership and communication skills to effectively lead a diverse team and manage stakeholders.

  • Problem-Solving: The ability to identify and address challenges, making quick and informed decisions.

  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills to assess data, track progress, and make data-driven decisions.

  • Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills to convey complex technical information to various stakeholders.
