Associate/Associate Director Structural Engineer

AtkinsRéalis is looking for a number of Associate Structural Engineers to join our growing team in the Middle East within our UAE offices. This is an exciting opportunity to join a developing department within a large multi-disciplinary organisation delivering high quality engineering developments. Note - We are currently pending award on several significant projects. Should we be awarded, this position is a key role. Consequently, we are keen to speak to individuals in the market place with the experience listed below for such potential future programmes of work.

Responsibilities

This is a full-time role working Monday to Friday, 8am-6pm. You will join Atkins as a Associate Director within the Middle East business to support the team on our growing portfolio of projects within the region. Key responsibilities include:

  • Company Management
    • Support Directors in management functions
    • Attend the Company’s monthly BUL meetings.
  • Manage and lead a team
  • Lead, develop and manage the team to ensure a high level of technical quality and commercial performance
  • Become a Technical Champion for Atkins in the Middle East and drive our expertise out into the market both for clients in developing new business and additionally to peers within the industry.
  • Experience in design leadership, presentations, collaboration, structural calculations, reports, specifications and overseeing the delivery of our REVIT/BIM teams.
  • Manage any HR issues of the team with Directors and HR.
  • Carry out regular staff appraisals with Management
  • Keep accurate project records for monthly recording and forecasting of earnings levels against agreed fees.
  • Forward planning in relation to work ahead and revenue/resource forecasting.
  • Assist with and control the commercial management of the team to ensure costs in line with revenue.
  • Manage and guide team members within the team to assist with their development.
  • Organise and attend regular team meetings
  • Manage project delivery
  • Maintain co-ordination of project work to ensure timely delivery and quality.
  • Agree project deliverables directly with the Client and other Professionals.
  • Monitor project progress against expected programmes and manage resource levels accordingly.
  • Adapt to different cultures and working environments with the ability to work under pressure, in addition, being flexible travelling across the GCC and overseas.
  • Ensure that designs are undertaken in accordance with the current Quality Management procedures and design Standards
  • Establish relationships with existing and prospective clients.
  • Occasionally carry out site inspections.
  • Manage co-ordination of work undertaken by external sub-contractors and design checkers.
  • Undertake direct engineering activities on an as needs basis and where appropriate act as Design Team Leader.
    • Actively Partake in Client Care
  • Represent and enhance the image of the company at external client meetings
  • Develop working relationships with existing Clients and assist with gaining further commissions.

Requirements

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with good written and verbal communication skills who have the desire to learn, grow and work as part of a team. Typically, our senior engineer will have the minimum.

  • A good engineering degree (honours or equivalent) in civil or structural (essential)
  • A Chartered civil/structural engineer with the MICE or MIStructE.
  • Minimum of 15years experience
  • Has a significant professional consulting experience of operating predominantly within challenging consulting environments and where a significant component of that experience should be from the management and/or solution designs as well as from the management of projects and tenders.
  • Has widespread experience of taking the lead on consulting projects and in acting as an engineering/technical/functional resource.
  • Demonstrates strong consulting and business acumen as well as strong engineering, technical and functional acumen, in relevant domains of knowledge.
  • Experience in the design of building structures.
  • Sound experience in conceptual design.
  • Leadership/Management experience.
  • Strong communication skills, independent working, presenting and influencing skills.
  • Successful experience of project and team collaboration
  • Proven track record of successful delivery and client management.
  • A broad understanding of industry BIM requirements.
  • Experience in change management and quality assurance processes.
  • Commercial awareness including the ability to scrutinise contracts to negotiate preferential terms.
  • Demonstrates the ability to enhance client relationships and support the winning of business opportunities and development of proposals.
  • Good organisational and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel, if required.
  • Has excellent English language skills (written and oral), coupled with strong communication (written and oral) and negotiating skills.
  • Good presentation skills and the ability to interface with clients
  • Good reporting skills in the written form
  • Preparation of designs throughout all RIBA stages.
