Team Lead, Site Assessment & Remediation – Kelowna, BC

Site Assessment and Remediation (SAR)  

Our expert team specializes in managing environmental liability through comprehensive site investigations, risk assessments, and customized remediation and risk management plans. As Environment, we are unique in that we support all sectors across AtkinsRéalis from transportation, infrastructure, water, power & renewables, and many more.  At AtkinsRéalis, we will provide you with exceptional training throughout your career, and mentorship from specialists and leaders across the globe.  

We have one of the most experienced environmental and geosciences engineering consulting teams in Canada and we are seeking a Team Lead to join our Kelowna, BC team.  The successful candidate will bring well developed leadership skills to provide senior level technical direction and mentoring of staff, strong client management skills and the ability to collaborate with other Team Leads to contribute to management initiatives.   

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of 10+ staff comprising technical and professional staff at all levels of development. They will support management in promoting collaboration within the Environment Practice and with other Technical Practices, Business Units, Proposal and Marketing and Project Delivery divisions to ensure effective resource sharing and workload/resource balancing. They will provide operational leadership to the Environment Practice by allocating engineering and technical teams to projects, managing or acting in a senior technical direction role on projects and supporting the technical development of staff to support project execution.  

Your role within the team:  

  • Supervising and mentoring a team of environmental professionals and technical staff; 
  • Provide leadership with a focus on collaboration and instill a culture of diversity, inclusion and equality; 
  • Involved with recruitment and retention of staff to build a high performing team; including strategic hires, as appropriate based on workloads and Market requirements;  
  • Maximize group utilization, while also ensuring a healthy work-life balance by coordinating resources with other Team Leads; 
  • Understanding client objectives, technical protocols, guidelines and regulations that apply to the work/projects conducted and the rationale/developmental framework behind them;  
  • Acting as a direct interface between clients and the AtkinsRéalis project team and/or regulatory bodies, as appropriate; 
  • Senior level project management (including technical program development, management of personnel and resources, oversight of budgets and schedules for deliverables, implementing quality assurance reviews, and ensuring client objectives are met);  
  • Growing the group revenue from existing client relationships, developing new business and/or expanding lines of business;  
  • Identifying project quality/project profitability risks and liabilities, and developing strategies to minimize them;  
  • Ensuring proper implementation and continued use of quality assurance programs and corporate policies and procedures, including Ethics and Compliance 
  • Embracing behavior-based safety and ensuring all health and safety protocols are followed.

The ideal candidate:

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Geology, Agrology, Biology or Environmental Sciences;
  • Minimum 15 years with 5+ years Managing Technical and Professional Staff;
  • More than 15 years of practical, progressive environmental consulting experience; 
  • Experience in managing environmental staff and being licensed as a certified professional would be considered an asset;   
  • Must be located in the Okanagan Region and based out of the Kelowna office; 
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate and mentor technical and professional staff at different levels of career development; 
  • Solid knowledge of municipal, provincial and federal environmental standards, regulations and guidelines as they apply to environmental investigation and remediation projects in British Columbia (and other parts of Canada as applicable on a project specific basis); 
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving abilities; 
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to manage time and multiple deliverables accordingly; 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; 
  • Proven technical writing skills; 
  • Commitment to excellence with a focus on quality control, quality management and attention to detail;
  • English proficiency in reading and writing .

Compensation Range:

Expected compensation for this role is between $93,000 - $155,000 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, location, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
