Summer event marks career milestone for 200 grads

​Earlier this summer, 200 graduates from across our UK businesses came together for a two-day development event at The University of Warwick which marked the completion of the three-year programme for those who joined us in 2016.

The event started with a strategic foresight session focused on digital transformation, one of the most prevalent and impactful themes across our company, industry and wider global economy. The cohort was set a challenge to define and shape future solutions that we could take to market to solve our clients’ most pressing and complex challenges.

Nathan, our Digital Transformation Director, led the challenge and said the feedback was inspiring as the graduates not only came up with fresh and innovative ideas, but could clearly see the commercial angle too. Themes included facial and biometric recognition, future mobility tokens, connected colleagues via wearables, asset data analytics and monetisation via machine learning, and operational agility across our company and supplier ecosystem.

“The exercise really showed how tuned in our future talent is to the uncertain world we face and will all move into together,” said Nathan.

The afternoon gave the graduates an opportunity to get competitive with games, including a relay race, tug of war and welly throwing. The evening celebrations included a formal dinner with a speech from Mark Anderson, CEO of UK & Europe while Andy Finch, Managing Director for ADS&T presented the prizes for sports.

The following day, graduates took part in a session on emotional intelligence, where our corporate charity, RedR ran a simulation exercise to help them develop team-working and planning skills. The event finished with a forward-looking session which encouraged attendees to ‘create your own future’.

All graduates who completed the programme will now continue to learn and develop their career at AtkinsRéalis through on the job learning, mentoring and other development experiences that are accessible to all employees.

Mark Jones, Senior Vice President, Human Resources, said: “It’s always inspiring to spend time with our graduates and to see first-hand the breadth of talent coming through the organisation. It was a great event and a real opportunity for the graduate community to build closer relationships across the business.”

Michael Laws, Assistant Engineer in Transportation, commented on the event, saying: “The graduate summer event was an enjoyable way to end three years on the Graduate Development Programme. It was a good opportunity to talk with senior management as well as to catch up with colleagues who I’d first met at the induction. I particularly enjoyed the presentation on controlling your inner chimp as well as the games, despite some creative score keeping by the competition!”
