As an Assistant Highways Drainage Engineer in our Transportation team, you'll be making a positive, sustainable difference to our world. Our work is time-sensitive and dynamic across high volume highway maintenance projects and exciting local schemes, but everyone is up to the challenge. Collaborating with teams in the UK and abroad, your skills will be welcome in our mix. You'll also be trusted with more responsibility sooner, while supported to develop in a direction that suits you.

Working from Trowbridge office 2 - 3 days per week, liaising closely with the lead engineer and site staff to ensure smooth delivery of multiple gangs countywide. Regular site visits around the county is an essential part of the role to liaise closely with public, client and contractors.

Your purpose:

  • The Highways Maintenance team based in the Trowbridge office requires a Assistant Highways Drainage Engineer to oversee and provide support to Engineers & Technician’s in the delivery of multi-location highway drainage investigation and repairs programme behalf of Wiltshire Council.
  • The primary role is to ensure contract documentation is technically accurate and in accordance with current industry standards, support team members during the assessment of sections of carriageway drainage systems to ensure they are in good condition prior to resurfacing, liaison with client, public and local councillors, attend meetings, undertake programming duties and review contractor invoicing.

What you can bring:

  • HNC, degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, or demonstrable experience.
  • Have a working knowledge and experience in highways and drainage construction methods.
  • Strong technical skills relating to the maintenance of highway drainage schemes.
  • Sound working knowledge in creating scheme documentation and critically reviewing colleagues’ work.
  • Applied knowledge of quality, safety and environmental processes.
  • IT skills (e.g. MS Office suite).
  • Strong organisational, inter personnel and communication skills.
  • Full driving licence is a must.

Security clearance:

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance.  If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview. The vetting process is delivered by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and may require candidates to provide proof of residency in the UK of 5 years or longer.
