Atkins’ Building Design division are looking to appoint someone to lead and inspire our Building Structures teams across the north of England and Scotland. This is a leadership role with responsibility for around 50 talented structural engineering professionals. The role will be based from either our Glasgow, Leeds, Newcastle, Stockton or Warrington offices.

As a key member of the Practice leadership team you provide technical guidance and professional challenge to help further develop your teams. You will work collaboratively with Building Design Practice colleagues to make a real contribution to the success of Atkins through securing new work across our significant internal and external client base – across sectors including the Cities & Development, Aviation, Transportation, Logistics and Technology sectors

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to a successful team of around 50 structural engineering professionals and continue to develop its reputation for technical excellence.

  • Work collaboratively with the Building Structures leadership team to ensure that the Practice operates as a national discipline.

  • Provide the focus for business communications and proactively support career and talent development.

  • Take ownership of key Business KPIs in region.

  • Take ownership of project performance in region to ensure suitable Leads are in place to provide predictability for quality, programme and cost delivery.

  • Work as part of the team winning work in the region and nationally, via direct client relationships and via bidding on opportunities across all Markets.

  • Work closely with the other Building Design practices, and the wider Atkins business, in region to develop a collaborative and integrated multi-discipline culture.

  • Create an awareness of technical and digital innovation across the region and proactively support the Design Transformation programme.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience of managing teams within Building Design / Structural Engineering.

  • Proven track record of successful delivery of cutting-edge building design projects.

  • Able to lead and inspire the practice team, providing combination of technical reputation and communication skills to interface with clients and internal stakeholders

  • Ability to build and motivate a team and demonstrate inclusive leadership qualities.

  • Knowledgeable across various market sectors and able to build on current client relationships and establish new client contacts.

  • Track record of winning work with strong experience of bidding.
