Data Scientist (Building Design)

Atkins Building Design practice are committed to delivering project solutions in any sphere of the built environment that demonstrably improve the quality of life for those people who live, work and play within them. We do this through the use of positive and pioneering technology and exploiting applied research and innovation. In support of this we are looking to grow our team, introducing a range of complementary skills to the more traditional design and engineering professionals. The ideal candidate for this role would be someone who is interested in cities and their infrastructure and is passionate about creating better places for people through the use of new technology and frameworks.



Responsibilities:

• Work alongside the Head of Design Research to develop practical and applicable solutions to design challenges across a range of sectors.
• Lead a number of data driven propositions that sit within the research & innovation strategy to support both market and design team drivers.
• Identify new opportunities to utilise data science to develop current design methodologies as well as new areas of service.
• Lead the analytical scope and methodology for projects and deliver scalable solutions to the business.
• Work with the Research & Innovation team as well as market leads to establish priorities and objectives for new and existing propositions.
• Liaise with other elements of Atkins SNC-Lavalin to leverage the expertise and experience across the business as well as facilitate the implementation of new propositions developed.
• Explore opportunities to apply research evidence and innovative technology solutions within the context of our design process and methodology.

Skills & Experience:

 
• Degree level qualification in the field of Computer Science, Applied Statistics
• Programming experience in languages such as; Python, SQL, R, Dynamo, Unity or VBA, Node.JS
• Experience in manipulation and analysis of both real-time and static data sets, with a focus on GIS/spatial analysis, ideally related to urban data.
• Experience of the technology and application of IoT solutions across a range of sectors and scales including but not limited to Raspberry Pi and Arduino.
• Understanding and experience in applying data science methods to design challenges within the built environment.
• Understanding of BIM, and authoring software preferable (Revit/AECOSIM/Rhino)

• Quick learner providing the ability to adapt to new technologies and methodologies.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to get buy-in from a range of stakeholders, resolve conflicts and prioritise deliverables.
• Ability to drive analytical scope and methodology for projects, including shaping the models in reference to a commercial environment.
• Demonstrable passion for staying one step ahead of the competition, testing and experimenting with new technologies and methodologies.

 

Please note that we will relocate from our current London office in Euston Tower to the Nova North building in Victoria in the first quarter of 2019.

 

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
