Why join us?

Designing for the future is about more than predicting what it looks like. It’s about having the know-how and the expertise to turn predictions into projects that deliver results and meet ever-changing needs. That’s what we do every day: for our clients, for their customers and for the sustainable future of our business and the world we operate in.

Here at SNC-Lavalin’s Ottawa office, we believe in developing our employees to their utmost potential.  We promote teamwork and collaboration, which is why our culture speaks for itself; our people are motivated to give their best and have a sense of personal fulfillment.  Each member of our team is integral in ensuring a positive workplace backed by a company committed to the safety of its employees.

Our once small office has seen exponential and continuous growth since its opening in 2016, going from 3 to over 100 employees!  To keep the positive trend going, we are seeking to add another superstar to our team…

The Engineering, Design and Project Management division is currently looking for an Electrical Technologist for its National Capital Region office.  The incumbent must have experience working on building projects in Commercial/Retail, Residential and Institutional Markets.

How will you contribute to the team?

  • Developing electrical designs and technical specifications for systems such as power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, and other related systems for commercial, residential and institutional buildings.  Your experience with building electrical design will be the foundation for growth within our team.

  • Producing design drawings for tender under the direction of senior engineering and technologist staff. Our team goal is to develop independent designers who are capable of taking a design from concept through to construction ready with direction and guidance rather than having operators whose primary role is drawing the designs of others.  Under the direction of senior design staff, you will be given a range of design tasks with a growing level of complexity and responsibility as your experience grows.

  • Assist senior technicians and engineers preparing detailed design calculations and layouts for lighting, load studies and power system design.  All design tasks will be assigned based on experience and ability and always with senior support.  Training will be provided over time to allow for you to perform calculations and assessments related to your designs.

  • Working in a multi-disciplinary environment coordinating design elements with mechanical, fire protection, structural and civil design groups. Our Ottawa office offers a full suite of engineering design services and most of our projects are delivered as part of a multi-disciplinary team.  You will gain exposure to and experience with working other engineering disciplines to provide a well-rounded understanding of how electrical work impacts and is impacted by others.

  • Conducting site surveys and inspections during design and construction.  To develop our design staff to their full potential, and foster better understanding of project delivery, we encourage participation of our entire team through the project delivery cycle.  This includes participation in existing condition surveys and reviews of the site during construction.

  • Develop engineering studies. In addition to design work, we are frequently involved in various levels of studies from capacity assessments to building condition reports to feasibility studies.  As your experience and exposure grows, you will be involved in the technical evaluations as well as writing and producing these reports.
