SNC-Lavalin (Impact Assessment and Community Engagement) is seeking an Environmental Monitor to provide environmental monitoring support for construction related projects for internal SNC groups and external clients. Reporting to the various Project Field Coordinator's/Project Manager's, you will be supporting them during the planning and construction phase of assigned projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains current knowledge of environmental regulations, standards, and best management practices; obtain appropriate/required training.
  • Consults with specialists (QEPs) when required for permitting or other related construction issues
  • Acts as the main point of contact between filed activity and Project Manager during construction.
  • Liaison with Project Construction Manager(s), maintaining strong communication to ensure issues are addressed in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Maintains an independent role from other project parties in order to assess compliance and report non-compliance events.
  • Provides guidance and ensures an appropriate level of environmental protection is in place to prevent or minimize project impacts on environmental resources.
  • Assesses on the ground through inspections whether or not the project is in compliance with environmental management requirements, project commitments and approvals, authorizations and permits, applicable legislation, regulations and guidelines, corporate environmental management programs and policies and industry Best Management Practices (BMPs).
  • Assist construction activities in resolving environmental issues/non-compliance issues on projects as they arise.
  • Monitors water quality; conduct water quality/soil sampling and reporting as required.
  • Assists in writing and reviewing CEMPs, EPPs, ESCPs and other project related plans.
  • Prepares/reviews construction environmental inspection/monitoring reports and other related documents.
  • Prepares daily field monitoring report, assisting with the development of weekly monitoring reports.
  • Other tasks to support the development of the assigned project, as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education in Environmental studies (Relevant University degree, diploma or graduation from a technical program)
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and Best Management Practices
  • 3-5 years prior experience as an environmental monitor or equivalent
  • Soil contamination experience is an asset
  • Valid BC Class 5 Drivers’ License
  • Values health, environment and safety while in field and in the office
  • Positive attitude, team-oriented and possesses the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to travel or work away from home
  • Willingness to work in variable climatic conditions
  • Willingness to work overtime when required
  • Detail-oriented, meticulous with field notes and methodologies
