Role:         Highways Engineers (Highways Experience)

Division:   Transportation Structures Practice
Projects:   Highways Design & Development
 
Atkins Transportation and Structures Practices are looking to recruit Highways Design Engineers with various levels of experience in Highways projects.
 
Key Requirements of a Highways Engineer: 
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or equivalent (HND).
  • Chartered Engineer (ICE or IStructE status), Incorporated Engineer or working towards.
  • Engineering design project experience within the Highways sector.
  • Engineering Consultancy/3rd party engineering design experience.


Roles (Not exhaustive): Assistant Highways Engineer, Highways Engineer, Senior Highways Engineer, Principal Highways Engineer, Group Engineer, Highways Engineering Manager, Civil Engineering Manager, Highways Engineering Manager and Practice Manager.

 
Locations: Atkins Transportation division have design teams based in; Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Chelmsford, Croydon, Epsom, London, Swansea, Swindon and Trowbridge. The successful candidate could be based from any of these locations.Additionally, flexible/home working is on offer where appropriate.
 
Highways Engineer Responsibilities:
 
To support the delivery of multidisciplinary designs ranging from feasibility studies to detailed design.
  • Undertake technical and feasibility studies and site investigations
  • Develop detailed designs
  • Assess the potential risks of specific projects, as well as undertake risk management in specialist roles
  • Feeding into tendering procedures and proposals
  • Manage, supervise and visit contractors on site and advise on civil engineering issues;
  • Develop both creative and logical solutions to design and development problems
  • Manage budgets and other project resources
  • Lead teams of other engineers, perhaps from other organisations or firms
  • Review and approve project drawings
  • Use computer-aided design (CAD) packages for designing projects
  • Undertake complex and repetitive calculations
  • Attend public meetings to discuss projects, especially in a senior role
  • Adopt all relevant requirements around issues such as building permits, environmental regulations and safety on all work assignments
  • Ensure that a project runs smoothly, is completed on time and within budget
  • Maintaining and developing excellent professional relationships which can secure repeat business.
