The department of Reactor Core Physics at AtkinsRéalis/Candu Energy is engaged in design and analysis work to support the design of new CANDU Nuclear Power Plants as well as supporting the operation and safety of the existing domestic and international CANDU plants. The junior reactor physicist will work under senior staff to perform technical analysis using up-to-date reactor physics codes, such as WIMS, DRAGON, RFSP and MCNP. 

Location – Mississauga, ON

Your role within the team:

  • Perform reactor physics analyses in support of the design, reactor operation and safety.
  • Prepare inputs for computer codes and run reactor physics computer codes, consistent with cases to be analyzed.
  • Collate results from different analyses.
  • Document analyses in technical notes and reports, and present results at meetings.
  • Develop/adapt/modify FORTRAN computer codes as required for specific applications, e.g., to implement new methods or perform new types of calculations.

The ideal candidate:

  • University degree in Physics or Nuclear Engineering or equivalent; reactor physics experience and/or background is a strong asset.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of relevant experience,
  • Must be conversant with computer environments; proficiency in both Linux and WINDOWS environments is a strong asset, and proficiency in computer programming, especially FORTRAN, is desirable.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, be flexible and show initiative while working in a team environment.
  • Must be willing to travel occasionally to participate in meetings and workshops.
  • Full commitment to working in a formal QA environment.
