Operations Manager - Environmental Services

We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager with Environmental Engineering background to provide business and operational leadership to SNC-Lavalin’s Cranbrook office.  The Cranbrook office currently has five contaminated sites staff and three Geotechnical staff; it has a strong backlog of work, and very good growth potential.  Primary services offered in the Cranbrook office include contaminated site assessment and remediation, hydrogeologic studies, water supply, abandoned mine assessment and management, risk assessment, and waste management. 

However, complementary services also offered include geotechnical and hydrotechnical engineering, and environmental impact assessment and management. While not necessary to have a contaminated sites background, the successful candidate must have strong knowledge of the contaminated sites line of business and environmental impact.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Overall leadership of contaminated sites staff in the Cranbrook office, and reporting to the Territory Manager, BC Interior.
  • Developing and executing annual business and pursuit plans for developing new business opportunities with focus on the Cranbrook area, including cross selling of services
  • Developing and maintaining a network of business contacts
  • Participate or delegation of participation in local professional and/or business associations
  • Developing annual budget forecasts, and maintaining appropriate staff levels to meet budget
  • Coordinating business development and operational activities in and between the various offices, and ensuring staff are adequately trained and appropriately utilized
  • Ensuring projects are adequately resourced and supported
  • Providing recommendations on hiring including participating in the applicant screening and interview process.
  • Providing technical direction on and/or senior review of projects and proposals
  • Project Management of own projects
  • Managing existing clients and maintaining client relations
  • Identifying and mitigating at-risk projects
  • Ensuring appropriate QMS on projects
  • Ensuring annual performance reviews are completed for all staff
  • Managing personnel and proposing staffing conflict solutions with support from Human Resources
  • Mentoring and/or coaching staff
  • Maintaining an up to date knowledge of existing and emerging opportunities, trends, regulatory requirements and best practices
  • Overall responsibility for management of office infrastructure and lease.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post secondary education in a relevant discipline
  • Solid understanding of the drivers within the environmental consulting industry (i.e., business trends, regulatory, economic, and political)
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant job experience leading a team
  • Professional designation in a relevant science or engineering discipline is preferred
  • Valid BC class 5 drivers license
  • Demonstrated successful track record with project management, execution and business development and proposals
  • Strong leadership skills (i.e., planning, leading, execution, and control methods)
  • Highly developed client management skills
