Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Operations Supervisor manages and leads a team of attendants, sets clear goals while monitoring performance against quality standards, and increases the Canada Line’s reputation as a high-quality service provider by continually improving standards of customer service. The Operations Supervisor manages performance and competency levels including handling performance issues by identifying the problem and causes while providing coaching and feedback.

Location – Richmond, BC (Onsite Work)

Your role within the team:

  • Directly participates in the recruitment, performance management, and disciplinary processes.
  • Provides support to frontline employees providing mediation and conflict resolution support as the first line of contact, including guidance to company policy, compliance, procedures and practice while actively promoting teamwork.
  • Ensures all training and competencies are maintained and up to date.
  • Ensures the team is regularly briefed and that employees are fit for duty.
  • Assists and provides feedback to the department manager in the development of company policies, procedures, and programs and working on the continuous improvement of customer service and safety for the benefit of the customer and business.
  • Supports the Operations Manager in the handling of customer complaints and enquiries.
  • Supports safety objectives as directed by Operations Manager or company delegates.
  • Carry out operational duties on trains and at stations as necessary, including the manual operation of trains during emergencies or incidents.
  • Monitors employee attendance in accordance with the policies and procedures set forth in the companies Attendance Management Program.
  • Manages routine overtime requirements and staffing levels to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Expected compensation for this role is between Pay Range $89,000 - $98,000 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.

The ideal candidate:

  • Minimum 5 years in a leadership, supervisory, or management position is preferred. 
  • Experience in rail-based operations.
  • Good verbal skills and working knowledge of a foreign language that is relevant to the surrounding areas of Canada Line’s operation.
  • Must have excellent computer skills (Microsoft Word / Excel / PowerPoint / Outlook).
  • Must have exceptional customer service skills.
  • Excellent level of numeric and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must have a current Class 5 BC driver’s license.
  • Management experience in a unionized environment may be considered an asset.
  • Must be physically capable and qualified for working wayside during a service failure or emergency.
  • Ability to work various shifts including weekends as well as working outdoors in all types of weather and is prepared to support a 24/7 operation
  • Strong leadership skills, able to manage a team of employees, provide direction in terms of work planning and workforce deployment.
  • A combination of education and experience may also be considered.

Safety responsibilities

  • Acts as point of contact and participates in investigating incidents, accidents and service delays, providing appropriate reports and recommending remedial action where necessary and following thorough remedial actions to completion. Represent PROTRANS BC on joint enquiries where required.
  • To ensure Canada Line train operations are carried out safely and in compliance with standards.
  • Responsible for the health and safety of all Canada Line Attendants within his or her team.
  • Ensure that stations are safe and fit for service.
  • Coordinate the site response to operational incidents and accidents.

Environmental aspects - This role has no Significant Environmental Aspects associated with it, but the incumbent is expected to follow Company Policy relative to all matters pertaining to the environment. Also, in the Supervisory role, they are expected to ensure their team is also following the Company Environmental Policy.

This position is safety critical.  Fitness for duty is a requirement of the position.
